How the Internet works
There is Internet in Cuba. In 2011, residents of Havana and other cities finally had the opportunity to use the network. A high-speed cable was stretched from Venezuela by sea. However, at that time, only employees of Cuban state-owned companies received access. As of 2021, mobile Internet in Cuba is under the monopoly of ETECSA.
In 2012, many hotels, in particular Iberostar, began to offer Wi-Fi service in order to meet the level of international service. For it to start working, guests need to go to the reception and buy a “NAUTA” card. It can be inserted into any device you have with you - phone, tablet. You can also use the computers in the hotel lobby.
You can get Internet in Cuba using such a card for 30 minutes or 1 hour. The card taken from the hotel contains a login and password (usario and contresena in Spanish). It will cost about 6 dollars for half an hour and 12 dollars for 1 hour.
As we already mentioned, 2013 was an important year for the people of Cuba, as more than a hundred Internet cafes were opened. A year later, they offered to connect mobile Internet in the form of cards, and soon the possibility of home Internet became available. However, it has become something of a luxury, since you need to pay $60 for 220 hours of online use. In companies and firms in Cuba the tariff is different - 150-200 dollars per month.
There are several places where foreigners can use Wi-Fi for free. At the embassy of Poland, the Czech Republic, Holland and Sweden you can come twice a week for free internet. At the State Cultural Center, located in the capital, you can use Viber, Yandex and other sites to which admission is free.
Often tourists, in order to avoid queues, buy wireless Internet cards from resellers. It costs about $3 per hour on the World Wide Web. Due to technical faults, the Internet can often be interrupted. Tabs and photos in browsers load slower than you are used to, and a video call via Skype or Viber will be transmitted completely late.
Roaming Tele2
Tele2 roaming Belarus is connected automatically, i.e. no manipulations are needed. If you cannot connect automatically, you must perform manual setup. For each megabyte of traffic, the subscriber pays 25 rubles, rounded up to 50 kb.
For incoming and outgoing calls, the subscriber pays 15 rubles. Incoming SMS are free, and outgoing SMS are 6 rubles apiece. Sending an MMS also costs 6 rubles.
There are special conditions for international roaming: free incoming and outgoing 5 rubles per day. Unlimited Internet must be paid for 350 rubles per day.
Mobile communications in Belarus: comparison of operators
Mobile communications in Belarus are identical to those in Russia: there are 3 operators. One of them is MTS, but naturally Belarusian. And here it is in a leading position, featuring the best quality of communication. In second and third place are Life and Velcom - companies that are practically in no way inferior in quality to MTS. They are distinguished by more lenient tariff prices.
Despite the fact that international roaming is planned to be abolished in the country, operators are resisting this, setting their own conditions.
Tips for using roaming
Now you have figured out how to activate roaming in Belarus on the mobile operators MTS, Tele2, Megafon and Beeline. Why is it more profitable to use roaming in Belarus? Because the cost of roaming will be much cheaper than purchasing a SIM card from local operators.
When choosing any of the presented operators, consider why exactly you need cellular communications abroad. Calls, SMS or traffic package – what exactly do you need. It is according to these parameters that you should choose roaming from a cellular company.
Please note that if you should have been automatically connected, but you cannot register on the network, you must initially reboot your phone after arriving in the country. If it still fails, you should select the operator in the settings manually.
Please note that if you do not intend to use the Internet abroad, be sure to disable data transfer and select “data roaming” or “Internet roaming” in the settings.
Be sure to take into account the type of tariffication of your operator - per second or per minute and try to immediately disconnect the call after the end of the conversation, and not when a certain amount of time has passed.
Remember that you can request information about your balance and connected services as much as you like, because the terms of the tariffs do not imply charging additional fees for this.
Before traveling to Belarus, try to study the tariffs and options that the operator offers to use abroad while still at home. This can be done at the office of the cellular company, in your personal account or on the official website.
