Kcell/Activ

A connection that I have been hammering for a long time for their deceit and stupidity. According to the majority of Kazakhstanis, it is the very first mobile operator in Kazakhstan, which is not true. At one time, this office belonged to Kazakhtelecom and the Turks. Then there were rumors that the Turks (Turkcell) sold their share to the Finns. But it is not so. These were the Swedes (TeliaSonera). And it wasn’t a sale, but rather a transfer of assets, because... Swedes and Turks united in an office called FINTUR HOLDINGS BV, where the Turkish company has 26%, and the Swedish 74%. But Kazakhtelecom sold its share in 2012. And he sold them to the same TeliaSonera.

As of April 2021, the composition of Kcell shareholders was as follows:

TeliaSonera – 24%

FINTUR HOLDINGS BV – 51%

JSC Central Securities Depository (nominee holder) – 23.29%

The company is currently experiencing serious financial difficulties. The company's revenue has been falling for two years in a row. And the reason for this (this is purely my personal opinion) is not only objective reasons, but also incompetent management, as well as a disregard for their clients.

Blocking their subscribers for their own mistakes, clumsiness in decision-making, constant attempts to respond to the initiatives of other mobile operators, instead of generating these initiatives - this is what Kcell is all about.

But what irritates me the most is their contact center. In order to get through to the operator, you have to listen to a ton of unnecessary information. If I call the contact center, it means I want to solve a specific problem, and not listen to unnecessary advertising for yet another government tariff. Display all tariffs on a separate button, and do not eat the brains of callers.

Or these constant unilateral tariff changes. I don’t need aggregation of gigs. I don’t use mobile internet at all. I need a phone for communication, not for YouTube. But no, they will push a new tariff for a higher price. And they don’t care about your opinion.

Another very big minus is their consultants on social media. networks. They post some kind of bullshit for fifth graders. They can't really answer the questions. They will ban you for criticism. In general, they are still miracle bells.

Therefore, I approach Kcell according to this principle: If they get covered, that’s where they go. The redneck must be punished.

The only advantage of this office is their customer service departments. Although the queues there are long, you won’t sit there for long due to the fast service. And the service itself is excellent.

UPD. On December 12, 2021, it became known that Kazakhtelecom JSC bought 75% of the shares of Kcell JSC. It turns out that Kazakhtelecom completely bought out the share of TeliaSonera and FINTUR HOLDINGS BV

ALTEL/TELE2

This company is the first in Kazakhstan to begin offering cellular communication services. Was founded in 1994. For almost 3 years it was the only provider that had a 4G license. Which mobile operator is more profitable in Kazakhstan?

Mobile operators in Kazakhstan provide sufficient amounts of data and services to their potential tourist clients. Most travelers only use mobile devices, so the services are tailored specifically to them.

When deciding which mobile communications in Kazakhstan will be beneficial for you, you should decide what is more important to you - calls and SMS or the Internet.

If you need everything at once, then you can choose either Tele2 or Beeline operators. They have sufficient volumes of services, so there is plenty to choose from. They also provide the Internet, which comes as an accompanying “product”.

When a client is more interested in the Internet, he can turn his attention to the Kcell company, which has a wide range of online packages that can be connected for a period of 1 to 90 days. Daily tariffs provide a small amount of MB for a relatively low fee. This option is convenient for those who occasionally use the Internet to communicate in instant messengers or view email and social networks. This is the only operator that provides the largest volume of traffic or unlimited traffic when you need a lot, a lot of Internet.

In all tariffs you can change SMS and minutes to the Internet and vice versa.

Beeline

As the name already implies, Beeline Kazakhstan is a daughter of the Russian Beeline. And the Russian Beeline is one of the big three operators in Russia.

At one time it was my only connection, but then I left because of the high cost of their tariffs. Although, now their tariffs are quite adequate.

Currently I am using home Internet from their office. In principle it works quite well. At first, after connecting, the Internet kept dropping, so I had to call their support service frequently. It helped. But only until the next day. Then everything started again. It was infuriating beyond belief. In the last six months, everything has improved, which is good news.

What irritates me most about Beeline is their customer service departments. I have already written about one of them. But in others it's the same. Constant queues. Slow service. Ignorance of your own procedures. In general, a complete star and a mess in one bottle. The only thing worse than the Beeline subscriber department is the housing and communal services department of some Zadryuchinsk.

And another crazy thing that infuriates me about Beeline is that they constantly register some wrong numbers for me or my sister. As they regularly explain to me: the numbers are sold by dealers, and Beeline is not responsible for them. Stsuko, how do you want to manage the market if you can’t even cope with your own dealers? In general, this is so far the only reason why I left Beeline. Yuri Pak's fame doesn't appeal to me at all.

But besides the tariffs, Beeline has one more advantage. Unlike the customer service department, their call center works quite vigorously. Solve problems quickly and adequately. The only disadvantage of the call center is the long wait to get in touch with an operator. Waiting 10-15 minutes, in my opinion, is too long and expensive.

On the way to reducing industry profitability

The public relations service of Kazakhtelecom also gave its comments in response to a request from Forbes.kz. They also believe that the level of competition in the cellular communications market in Kazakhstan is already high.

“Today, three operators with approximately the same level of income compete in the market. We believe that the emergence of a new operator on the market can contribute to an increase in the level of competition, which will have a positive impact primarily on consumers, because usually when a new player enters the market, it offers cheaper services compared to its competitors in order to gain market share. However, this will lead to a decrease in the profitability of the industry,” the company believes.

Batyr Makhanbetazhiev: Becoming a brand of first choice is more difficult than being the largest market player

Kazakhtelecom says that the CIS countries have one of the lowest levels of profitability per subscriber. In addition, Kazakhstan has a low population density - 6 people per 1 sq. km. And to provide high-quality communications at low tariffs, quite large investments are required.

“The new player will have to offer prices below current market prices to gain market share. At the same time, the level of investment of the new operator will be significant, since the existing operators already have their own extensive networks throughout the country. In terms of penetration, it should be noted that there has been a decline in recent years as more and more people abandon the second number. This trend is also relevant in Europe. As for the growth potential of the mobile market, we see several points for growth:

— further growth in data consumption, especially in rural areas;

— the introduction of new technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), can have a significant positive impact on the industry;

— introduction of 5G standard communications, concludes Kazakhtelecom.

WHICH CELL OPERATOR DO KAZAKHSTANIS TRUST?

Recently, a lot has changed in the cellular communications market in Kazakhstan: 4G standard communications have appeared, unlimited Internet tariffs have disappeared, operators have become carried away by the marketing confrontation. We decided to talk to the administrators of the Promobilekz community about whose connection they prefer and what tariffs they recommend.

HOW MANY SUBSCRIBERS HAVE OPERATORS IN KAZAKHSTAN

Kcell and Activ together have 9,748,000 subscribers in the first half of 2016, Tele2 and Altel have 6,400,000 subscribers. And Beeline has 9,179,000 subscribers at the end of the first quarter of 2021.

To keep abreast of the activity of all operators, I have three numbers: Beeline, Activ and Tele2. But Beeline is the main one, because I’ve been using the number for 10 years and like the quality of the connection.

I didn’t change the operator, and I had no desire to change, but it was interesting to watch some acquaintances who first left their operator, then moved on to one, the other, and eventually came back.

I consider fraud to be the main problem in the cellular communications market in Kazakhstan. Because of this, the overly gullible older generation suffers. To solve it, we need to tighten laws that will take responsibility for fraud. I would advise all operators to stop marketing wars and learn to live in partnership, especially in times of crisis, and work on improving the quality of service.

In the era of general “smartphoneization,” maybe smartphoneization? and the popularity of social networks, I recommend using a tariff plan with a large amount of Internet traffic. For example, “All for 2300” with 30 gigabytes of traffic for a month, that is, 1 gigabyte per day.

Beeline , tariff plan “All for 2300”

Conditions: 10 gigabytes of daytime and 20 gigabytes of night traffic, 350 minutes of calls to other mobile operators, 350 SMS within the network, unlimited calls within the network Subscription fee: 2300 tenge per month

I use Beeline. I am satisfied with their quality of services, understandable tariffs and more or less normal 4G. In addition, almost all relatives use Beeline, which is beneficial. Recently, due to work, I had to connect a second SIM card from Kcell, but so far Beeline is still more pleasing.

Now there are no normal tariffs and packages for mobile Internet. All “Unlimited” disappeared, and prices went up. The same 4G, as for me, is a problem for operators, since creating such an infrastructure is quite difficult, and so far its quality leaves much to be desired. I would advise operators to study the real needs of customers. Tariffs need more transparency and simplicity, as it is very easy to get confused in the packages. Another annoying thing is the constant notifications from operators: “Set the dial tone” and so on.

I have been using one operator for more than 10 years—Kcell. I like their consistency, quality of service, and the level of service they provide in their customer service departments. I once changed my second Activ number to Kcell, now I have two Kcell numbers because I like their tariff line better.

Problems in the market depend on the specific operator. For example, Tele2 has poor quality, Kcell has poor route coverage, Altel has poor service. Perhaps there are some problems in the regions, but in Almaty and Astana they are not particularly noticeable. In general, I think that we have few problems, since high healthy competition bears fruit. But we still need to work on improving network coverage, communication quality and new services for subscribers. These could be multimedia services and contract phones, like Kcell, payment for various services through a balance, like Beeline, and the like.

I use the “Prestige” tariff from Kcell. It may be a little more expensive than Tele2, but the quality of the service is much higher.

Kcell , “Prestige” tariff plan, 25 gigabytes

Conditions: 25 gigabytes of monthly Internet traffic, free calls within the network, 1000 SMS within the network, 500 minutes for other mobile operators, 50 minutes for international calls, 30 minutes for calls in roaming Subscription fee: 5590 tenge per month

My favorite provider since 2003 has been and remains Beeline. I haven’t changed the operator since then, I used SIM cards from Activ, Tele2 and Yota in parallel with the main one when traveling to Russia.

I consider the main disadvantage of the cellular communications market to be the small number of subscribers. More saturated markets can boast a larger selection of devices and offers for them. Operators could also offer interesting contract phones with affordable conditions and, of course, tariffs on more favorable terms. This problem is solved by increasing the demographics of the country: the more people there are, the better deals consumers can get.

I would like to wish all the best to the Beeline team, they always help with my big and small problems with cellular communications. Hello to the Kcell and Activ team who promised me a branded phone stand 59 weeks ago.

Now I am using the excellent latest offer from Beeline “All for 1500” and additionally Activ with.

Beeline , "All for 1500"

Conditions: 5 gigabytes of daytime traffic, 10 gigabytes of night traffic, 200 minutes to other mobile operators, 200 SMS within the network, unlimited calls within the network Subscription fee: 1500 tenge per month

Activ , "Conversation"

Conditions: free calls within the network, 200 SMS within the network, free access to mobile versions of social networks VKontakte and Facebook Subscription fee: 590 tenge per month

BAURZHAN SULEIMENOV website developer and co-owner of a cafe

Now I use Altel, because in the city and at home the network reception is good and the Internet is fast, but soon I plan to switch back to Beeline. Before that, I switched from Beeline to Tele2, from Tele2 back to Beeline, from Beeline to Altel. I switched so often because of the Internet and the cost of the tariff.

It seems to me that the connection became worse, and prices began to rise, and unlimited Internet tariffs disappeared. It seemed like there was an improvement trend at one point, but over the last year things have gone the other way. Altel and Tele2 merged, competition disappeared, the market stands still. The tariffs of all operators are not very attractive.

Operators should work on signal quality and truly unlimited Internet tariffs, at least at a reduced speed. Now I don’t see any profitable offers from any operator.

For now I use Altel and buy 8 gigabytes during the day and 10 at night for 1390 tenge. I plan to go to Beeline and buy 10 gigabytes during the day and 20 gigabytes at night for 2300 tenge.

Internet speed test in Kazakhstan

Share with a friend

Speedtest is a special service that provides an accurate measurement of Internet speed. Using the Kazakhstan Internet speed test, the subscriber will be able to: 1) get connection speed results; 2) have additional information regarding location, browser version, operating system type and provider name.

Data that our service will show

Speedtest in Kazakhstan allows you to get the following indicators:

  • Incoming speed is a speed indicator that determines how many Mbit/s were transferred from the server to the device. This parameter should be the highest.
  • Outgoing speed is a speed indicator showing how many Mbps were transferred from the device to the server. This parameter will be lower than the previous one, but not less than stated in the agreement with the provider.
  • Ping (latency) is a time indicator that determines how long it took for the server to respond. Measured in milliseconds. The speed of opening pages on the Internet and how quickly an online game or video can start depends on this parameter. The parameter should be low, otherwise all online actions will be slow.

Additional Speedtest information:

  • IP address.
  • Provider name.
  • Test time.
  • Operating system type.
  • Connection method.

This information is required when you call the hotline operator. It will be easy for the user to answer questions regarding the technical characteristics of your OS, testing time and other important points.

GSM standard - 2G

The second generation of mobile communications occurred during the heyday of cellular technologies and was used during the beginning of their mass distribution. This standard made it possible to transmit voice data, and later with the development of GPRS and EDGE add-ons (the letter E on the mobile phone screen when mobile data is turned on) and to access the Internet at speeds of up to 171.2 Kbps (GPRS) and up to 474 Kbps with (EDGE) .

This communication standard uses two frequency bands: 900 or 1800 MHz. Nowadays, the 2G standard is very outdated and is used only in extreme cases:

  • Unavailability of a communication signal of a newer generation (3G, 4G);
  • Old-style mobile phones;
  • GSM warning and alarm systems;
  • VoiP-GSM gateways;
  • Many models of cash register equipment.

Also, the abbreviation GSM can be seen in the name “GSM repeater”, which is only a general name for signal amplifiers of any standard.
