CAM module
The CAM module is a device for viewing digital pay TV.
This is a small (smaller than a smartphone) device that is installed directly inside the TV, as opposed to a set-top box. This is why many subscribers love the CAM module so much: it is invisible, you don’t need to look for a place for it next to the TV screen, you continue to use the usual remote control and navigation through TV channels built into the TV.
To connect digital or satellite TV via a CAM module, please fill out the application by clicking on the “Connect” button.
Until recently, in order to watch digital cable or satellite television, it was necessary to connect a special device to the TV - a “set-top box” (otherwise called a receiver, tuner). The receiver's task is to receive the television signal and decrypt it, since leading providers transmit the signal encrypted. However, starting around 2012, most televisions began to be equipped with built-in tuners (receivers), that is, they are able to receive a signal without connecting additional equipment, but not decipher it. For decryption in these cases, the cam module is used (“cam” literally means “conditional access module”).
MTS uses modules for digital cable and satellite TV. These are different and not interchangeable devices.
For satellite TV (in a private house)
Satellite TV works everywhere: in a city apartment, and outside the city in a country house or cottage. Most often, residents of private houses prefer to install satellite TV.
In addition to the CAM module, you will need an antenna (“dish”) to receive satellite television. The antenna is installed outside the building, for example, on the roof, and a cable is routed from it to the TV. The TV, in turn, houses a CAM module.
For cable TV (in an apartment)
MTS digital cable TV is available in many cities of Russia, in apartment buildings that have MTS networks.
To connect it, you do not need to buy equipment; just call a specialist by filling out an application on this website. The CAM module is provided free of charge or rented from 10 rubles/month.
How much does the service cost?
There are 20 free channels that subscribers of any operator can watch.
When using mobile traffic on the MTS network in 3G or 4G, its volume is not taken into account and is included in the cost of the service. Other packages are paid monthly or daily.

How the CAM module works
A cam module for a TV is a simple computer that allows you to decode a video stream and coordinate it with the TV signal system.
The module is installed in the CI slot of the receiver - if the TV has a built-in tuner, then the required slot will also be there.
To view paid channels of a specific provider, an access card (smart card) is placed in the module, which has a unique number and contains information about the subscription period, available channels, viewing time and the key to decrypting the channels. The information on the card is updated remotely by the operator himself. Simply put, such a card allows the provider to control the degree of access to encrypted TV channels for each subscriber: the built-in digital tuner reads the access codes from your smart card and decodes all channels in accordance with your tariff. Each provider strives to prevent illegal viewing of its channels. Some link a smart card to a unique number for each set of equipment (set-top box or module), others prohibit the use of multi-channel CAM modules, others sell sets of their own mandatory equipment (MTS, Tricolor, etc.).
Frequent connection problems
Problems may arise when setting up the MTS satellite dish yourself.
- For example, a “No Signal” error may appear if cables and other components are poorly connected, as well as in adverse weather conditions where there will be no signal. Another reason is the technical work performed by the operator.
- "No channels." The smart card may have been inserted incorrectly or your service package subscription may have expired.
- An error code E is displayed. A list of symbols is available on the company’s website or by calling the hotline. If a different letter is displayed, there may be a problem with the TV.
- Video and audio mismatch. A factory reset may help.
- Not all channels were found. The list needs to be updated.
As you can see, the process of installing equipment for connecting satellite TV takes a lot of time, but if you follow the instructions and safety precautions, it is quite possible to cope with this task yourself and without calling a specialist.
What TV models is the cam module suitable for?
Most TVs released after 2012 support a cam module for digital cable TV, and some of them support satellite TV.
First, decide which MTS television you want to connect to: digital cable or satellite. It often happens that the TV is equipped with a built-in tuner for cable digital TV, but does not have a receiver for satellite TV. Therefore, before purchasing a cam module, determine which receiver is built into your TV by looking at the technical specifications:
- DVB-C - digital cable TV receiver, this TV is suitable for installing a CAM module for cable TV;
- DVB-S, DVB-S2 - satellite TV receiver, this TV is suitable for installing a CAM module for satellite TV;
- DVB-T, DVB-T2 - a receiver for free terrestrial TV (there are no cam modules for terrestrial TV, if there is such a built-in receiver, the TV will automatically find national terrestrial TV channels).
The TV can support several of the above formats.
In addition, to use MTS cam modules, the TV requires:
- CI+ slot (CI+ technology, unlike CI, allows you to additionally protect content from copying),
- support for HEVC encoding system (only for satellite TV).
What to choose: set-top box or cam module?
Pros of the cam module, cons of the set-top box:
- The main advantage of the cam module is its compactness. The module is inserted into the TV and is then completely invisible. You don't have to think about where to put the set-top box or how to attach it if the TV is hanging on the wall. In addition, there are no connecting wires to connect the set-top box to the network and to the TV.
- When using a cam module, there is no loss of quality, since image processing occurs on the TV and is immediately displayed on the screen, bypassing an external cable. In the case of a set-top box, the image is processed by the set-top box and transmitted to the TV via cable, so there may be a certain loss of quality during transmission.
- When installing the cam module, you continue to use the TV remote control. The set-top box always requires a separate remote control (included with the set-top box) to control the set-top box. However, universal remote control technology is now widespread: the remote control for the set-top box is reprogrammed and takes on the functions of the TV remote control.
Pros of the set-top box, cons of the cam module:
- As a rule, the set-top box has convenient built-in functions: parental controls, a media player, a convenient program guide, a convenient channel list - the cam module does not have them, you are limited by the capabilities of your TV.
- With the cam module you do not have access to interactive TV. It is connected using IPTV technology (internet television) and only through a set-top box.
- Setting up a cam module is more complicated than setting up a receiver, and there is no single instruction for such setup. This is due to the fact that when installing the cam module, you are setting up the TV itself, and the TV menus may differ. For example, if the operator’s list of channels changes, when using the module you will have to manually start the search (this happens automatically on the set-top box). In addition, the provider always has instructions for setting up the set-top box, but the procedure for setting up the module will differ depending on the brand of TV.

To set the clock, time zones, and turn off time of the TV box, go to the “Settings” - “Basic settings” section.
IPTV set-top box and CAM module for digital TV from MTS
Modern home digital TV in HD quality is a new milestone in cable television. If previously it was enough to run a cable into the house and connect it to the TV, now, with the increase in the size of TV screens, an image of this quality is not enough for a comfortable perception of the picture. To watch channels in digital quality, a special set-top box or TV module is used. Setting them up is not that difficult, especially since the equipment is usually set up by a cable TV specialist.
You can receive DVB T2 digital television channels for free using a regular terrestrial antenna. But, as a rule, there will not be many channels, and it is necessary to have direct visibility from the antenna to the TV tower. Therefore, it is better to connect digital cable TV, which will have many more channels and does not require any antenna, even if you pay a small subscription fee for it. Let's look at ways to connect home TV from MTS.
Wired connection
Data transfer speeds via a Wi-Fi radio channel are lower than with a cable connection. To connect a USB modem to your TV, you need:
- connect the router to the TV receiver using an Ethernet cable;
- insert the modem into the router;
- configure the equipment.
Router output channels are most often colored yellow. Blue indicates the wired input from the provider (if available) - WAN port. Some TV receivers only support demon. If you don't have a free LAN port on your router, you can purchase a hub.
To set the parameters of a TV running Android OS, you need to follow these steps.
- Login using the HOME button.
- Go to Settings.
- Open Network and its settings.
- Go to the Simple tab.
- Click the Wired LAN option - wired local network.
How to connect
Connecting your home MTS TV is as easy as shelling pears: call the toll-free number 8-800-250-00-50, give your address and make sure that connection is possible in your home. Next, leave a request for connection, and within a few days a specialist will contact you to clarify the connection date. We advise you to use the information below to determine in advance the type of equipment you wish to use. You can rent equipment and pay a small monthly rent for it, or you can buy it back by paying a certain amount once.
Usually a specialist himself connects and configures the equipment, but if you have the fate of connecting yourself, then watch the following video. Various details and instructions are given below.
TV module
In order to use the CAM module, the TV must have a CI slot and a built-in DVB-C receiver. These components are already available in all modern TVs.
The advantages of this method of connecting digital TV are as follows:
- no need to use an additional IPTV set-top box, which will take up extra space;
- all channels will be present on the TV itself, and an extra remote control will not interfere with you;
- the device itself is cheaper.
But there is also a drawback: you will not be able to use such useful IPTV functions as repeat, rewind and pause TV channels in real time, as well as picture-in-picture, video on demand, etc.
The procedure for connecting the CAM module of cable digital TV from MTS is as follows:
- Turn off the TV;
- Insert the CAM module into the CI connector.
- We insert the Smart card into the module so that the card chip is on the side of the sticker on the module.
- Turn on the TV
Setting up a CAM module consists of the following steps:
- We set the correct time and time zone in the TV settings, and also, if there is a “Countries” section, select Russia or one of the countries of Western Europe (England, France, Germany and others).
- In the mode of receiving a digital TV signal, we search for channels with the parameters indicated in the table below.
Frequency: | 298000 KHz |
Modulation: | QAM 64 |
Symbol rate: | 6875 Kps |
Search type: | Network |
The MTS TV setup process is complete. When updating the channel package, you must search again.
HD set-top box
Connecting cable TV from MTS using a set-top box must be selected in 2 cases:
- If your TV does not have a CI slot or a DVB-C receiver.
- If you need IPTV functions pause, rewind, etc.
When choosing a set-top box, pay attention to the following: if your TV does not have an HDMI connector, then you need an SD set-top box connected to the TV using a tulip-type RCA cable. With such a decoder, you will only be able to use IPTV functions; watching programs and movies in HD quality will not be available. If your TV is equipped with such a port, then you will be able to enjoy watching HDTV high-definition programs.
It is also worth noting that when choosing this type, control will be carried out by the remote control from the set-top box. To connect the decoder, first insert the TV cable from MTS into it.
Then we connect the device to the TV using an HDMI cable or tulip.
Insert the Smart card.
We plug our decoder into a power outlet, insert batteries into the remote control and turn on the device.
We turn on our TV and use the remote control to select the HDMI or AV signal source. When you turn it on for the first time, the decoder will immediately offer to search for channels, we agree. As you can see, setting up the decoder is very simple. We will look at the functionality of various IPTV set-top boxes in more detail in other articles.
Thus, setting up home TV from MTS is not difficult. If you have a modern TV, you can use a special CAM module. If the TV is a little old, or you want convenient IPTV functions, then you can use a set-top box that will allow you to rewind the broadcast, pause it, and many other convenient things.

Appearance and equipment
The digital set-top box looks extremely simple. This is a rectangular box made of matte black plastic. It has a compact size, which allows you to hide it behind the TV or put it in any convenient place.
At the end of the TV box there are 2 USB inputs, through which flash drives and external hard drives are connected. On the rear panel there is an input for a network cable, an HDMI interface, an AV output and a slot for a microSD memory card.
The remote control is classic, elongated. It has the usual button-style controls and a digital lock through which the channel number is entered. There is a microphone and a button to call a voice assistant: thanks to this, the user can find a movie simply by saying its name.
The package includes: HDMI cable, power cable, remote control with batteries and instructions.
How to set up MTS television on an LG TV
Many new owners of MTS television prefer to use the services of the company’s technical specialists, but in order to save money, we would recommend learning how to configure the MTS satellite TV CAM module on an LG TV yourself. If any difficulties arise, you can always call support.
At the beginning of 2021, the equipment costs 2,990 rubles, and it includes a satellite dish and a CAM module (or TV set-top box). This is what the TV module looks like:
There is also a user manual in the box that will help you set everything up yourself. By the way, it is worth noting that if your TV does not have a CI input, such a module will not suit you and in this case you will need to use a set-top box. But, fortunately, most modern LG TVs have such a connector, and it is advisable to use the module in order to reduce the number of wires going to the TV.
The module itself is a flat rectangular box into which the card is inserted.
Most new TV models are equipped with this connector. This module is convenient because it allows you to reduce the number of wires connected to the TV.
The model consists of a housing with a connector and a card inserted into it.
After you have inserted the card into the module, it must be connected to the TV using the appropriate connector. The user manual says which side to do this on. Next, we move on to directly setting up MTS channels on the LG TV.
First, let's reset all settings to factory settings using the remote control. Press the Home button, a menu will appear on the screen in which you need to select the “Options” section.
Click on “Factory settings” and OK, then click Yes in the window to confirm, after which your TV will reboot.
After turning on the TV again, you should perform its initial setup, in which you need to select the Russian language, and then indicate Switzerland in the list of countries. If it is not there, select Finland. It is recommended to choose these particular devices, since digital television is guaranteed to work on them.
We also set up the clock, indicating the current time and date, and proceed to further actions.
In the first menu, select “Settings - Options - Auto search” and in the “Select TV connection” item, select Cable.
Then manually in the “Manual tuning” section enter the frequency 298,000 (298 MHz), speed 6875 and modulation 64. Close this window and click OK and “Run”.
A distinctive feature when setting up LG TVs for MTS satellite is the automatic channel update function, which must always be turned off, otherwise the channels you have configured will be constantly reset. To do this, go to “Digital cable settings - Auto update channels - OFF”.
Let's continue with the setup. Select “Customer service operator - Other operators.”
Nothing else needs to be changed for now. Click OK, then select “Run” in the window that appears.
As you can see, the search for analog and digital channels has begun. For now, you can leave the TV alone and go about your business for 10 minutes. In this case, do not press the “Next (Cable TV)” button under any circumstances, otherwise the search for channels will not reach the end.
This search may ultimately find a lot of channels, but you will only be able to watch the number that is specified in your contract with MTS TV.
The search can find a huge number of channels. As a result, on your TV you will be able to watch the number of channels that are specified in your contract with MTS. The remaining channels, unfortunately, will be encrypted.
If you want to watch encrypted channels, you will need to enter into an additional agreement with MTS or another company.
The remaining channels will be encrypted. To be able to watch them, you will need to enter into an additional agreement with MTS or another company.
When the channel search is completed, close this window using the appropriate button and go to the “Program Editor” section.
Here, using the blue button on your remote control, you need to mark the channels that you will not have access to.
To check the correct location of the CAM module in the TV port, you can go to the “CI Data” menu section.
If the module is inserted correctly, the text will be written in normal color. If you have positioned the module incorrectly, the line will be displayed in gray and will not be active, which can be noticed when switching menu lines with the remote control: the cursor cannot be stopped on this line.
This completes the setup of the MTS TV satellite on the LG TV. Enjoy watching!

Owners' opinion
Connecting a Samsung TV to the Internet (or a TV from any other manufacturer) allows you to unleash its full potential. This operation turns it into a true home multimedia entertainment center. After such a connection is implemented, the user is not strictly tied to TV programs, but can play entertainment content at his own discretion. This is the main advantage of such systems. Also, the source of content can be a special application or various sites on the Internet.
The disadvantages include a slight complication of the installation procedure.
