As a rule, modern providers use a DHCP connection, which allows you to connect to a DHCP server and receive network settings from it. But the PPPoE protocol is also still often used. And users whose device receives the Internet through this particular protocol may encounter problems changing the router settings due to the lack of a PPPoE username and password.
In this article, we will look in detail at what methods can be used to find out the PPPoE login and password.
BulletsPassView
The application helps you see the password hidden under the asterisks. It works with standard text fields. In this case, the encrypted combinations are displayed in a different place - in the main program window. There are still asterisks in the text field. The advantage of the service is that it supports Unicode. This guarantees correct restoration of English and other characters.
But BulletsPassView cannot help if the password is displayed in Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Dialup Windows. These apps do not store passphrases behind asterisks. This is just a dummy - an additional protective measure.
#1 Standard combinations
Is it possible to connect to the router if I forgot the password? This issue worries many users, because anyone can lose their authorization combination. There are ways to solve the problem when you forgot data - we will tell you about each of them. Let's start with standard sets of numbers.
Devices have login credentials built into them during setup. Most often these are the same letters and numbers - try to choose a random combination:
- The login is the word admin;
- The same word can be entered in both lines;
- Also try combinations 1234, 0000, 123.
There is another way:
- Open the router's data sheet;
- If the passport is not available, look for a similar device from friends/relatives or on the Internet and ask for information.
Method 1. Dialupass program

One of the ways that will help you find out your login and password if you have an Internet connection configured on your computer and you want to connect to the global network through a router. The Dialupass program will help you find out the data that was typed to access the Internet in the Windows system itself.

Find out the login password set for PPPoE in the router
What should I do if I need to find out the login and password set for PPPoE in the router? The question was asked in habrahabr.ru/qa/28217 and out of natural curiosity I decided to experiment. Let's assume that we don't have access to the admin panel. The router model is not so important (in my case, the D-Link DIR-300 was taken for testing)
I solved this problem using the excellent Mikrotik RB951-2n router (although it can be done on any router from this company). Connect to the console and execute the command -
interface pppoe-server server add authentication=pap disabled=no interface=ether5 service-name=service1
This command enables the PPPoE server on the fifth port of the router.
Next, we make an extended log output via PPPoE
system logging add topics=pppoe
Now we connect the WAN port of the router from which we need to pull out the password and the fifth Mikrotik port with a patch cord and go to the log. Look at the password in clear text
