Cost of communication

This tariff plan is one of the most advantageous offers from the Velcom operator. The subscription fee is a little more than 54 Belarusian rubles. For this amount the following services are provided:

• unlimited Internet traffic;
• free calls within the network;
• text messages to Velcom subscribers are free;
• multimedia within the network are free;
• package of calls in the amount of 1000 minutes to other numbers in Belarus.

The additional expenses that Welkom subscribers will have to make are also not very large and will amount to:

• 40 rubles for connection (when switching or purchasing a new SIM card);
• calls to landlines and over 1000 minutes per month, as well as to rural areas and intercity - approximately 9 kopecks;
• outgoing video calls – about 10 kopecks;
• SMS to subscribers of other operators – just over 4 kopecks;

This is an extremely important premiere for Daimler. Over the years of its existence, Smart has become not just a car, but a way of life, an icon of urban style, if you like. And attempts by other concerns to repeat the success of Smart were not crowned with success.

Therefore, when preparing a new generation, the engineers faced a difficult task. Firstly, maintain the uniqueness of the brand and its recognition. And secondly, to make the car more attractive to even more residents of megacities around the world.

So, the new Smart is built on a new rear-wheel drive, rear-engine platform, which Daimler developed together with Renault. By the way, the French have already launched the Twingo model, built on this basis. The machines have about 70% common parts, however, Smart still managed to make the most unique product possible.

For two

The main thing is that Smart did not follow the modern trend of increasing the size of the car with each generation. The length of the ForTwo model remained the same and is 2.69 m, but in order to make the car more spacious, its width was increased by 100 mm to 1.66 m. This made Smart a little more “plump” or even “flattened”, but the overall silhouette of the subcompact was preserved , and it is still impossible to confuse Smart with any other car.

Inside, the new Smart is also unique and unlike modern cars. Girls will appreciate the “fabric” upholstery of the dashboard and elegant buttons like on household appliances. Boys will like the pseudo-sporty air vents and the separately protruding tachometer, as, again, on cars with a sporty character.

It's quite spacious inside. My equally well-fed colleague and I settled into the Smart and quickly adjusted the fit (the range is more than sufficient). So, the passenger did not bother me, which is the case in the current generation Smart.

In addition, the trunk has also increased, although not by much - by 30 liters - up to 260. Not much, of course, but a large suitcase and a couple of bags will fit in there without any problems. What else do you need for a city car?

For four

The five-door Smart, in my opinion, is not as unique as the three-door version. It already looks more like an ordinary car than an urban style icon. But Daimler is still confident that such a car has every chance of becoming in demand.

To be closer in style to the traditional Smart model, the ForFour model was shortened by 250 mm and now the length of the car is only 3.49 meters. In width, of course, it is the same as the three-door - 1.66 m.

All this made it possible to create a quite decent doorway for rear passengers. In any case, I climbed there without any problems. To my surprise, I didn’t have to lift my legs and was already seated in the second row. The seating position is very upright, but there is virtually no support for your legs in the front seats. But there is still little headroom. A person taller than 185 cm will already be supporting the ceiling. And of course, the trunk of the ForFour is noticeably smaller - 185 liters. But here you can fold the rear seats and then the volume of the luggage compartment will increase to 975 liters.

Both modifications are currently available with two power units. A 1-liter naturally-aspirated engine producing 71 hp is offered as a base model. With it, Smart ForTwo reaches the first hundred in almost 15 seconds, but fuel consumption should not exceed 4.1 liters in mixed mode.

The second model already has a 0.9 liter turbine with a power of 90 hp. Both units work with either a five-speed “mechanics” or a six-speed “robot” with two clutches.

Later, a modification with a 60-horsepower engine, an electric version and a charged version from Brabus are expected to appear.

The new Smart will also be sold in Russia, but not earlier than at the end of next year. Moreover, the Daimler concern even wants to open dedicated dealers for Smart with us. Negotiations with partners are already underway.
