On November 9, in Vladivostok, MTS was the first in Russia and Eastern Europe to test a new technology on its operating network to increase Uplink traffic speed in LTE networks. The uplink frequency aggregation technology was developed jointly with Huawei and Qualcomm. It allows you to increase the speed of receiving and transmitting data from mobile devices tenfold. Thus, users will receive speeds sufficient for online broadcasts, transferring “heavy” files and working with large archives in the cloud. Successful tests showed an average data transfer speed of 48 Mbps - which means that a 20-minute HD video can be uploaded to YouTube in about two minutes.

The demonstration was carried out on a section of the MTS commercial LTE network in the Primorsky Territory by combining frequencies of 1800 MHz and 2600 MHz with a total bandwidth of up to 15 MHz, using frequency aggregation technology in the uplink and 64-QAM. The tests used Huawei network equipment, as well as a Qualcomm terminal based on the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X16 LTE modem and Huawei network equipment - an LTE FDD solution with support for 4T4R architecture radio modules and 256-QAM, MIMO4x4 technologies.

Testing of the developed technologies took place in two stages - in uplink and downlink connections. In “field conditions”, taking into account the load on the network and the weather, the connection speed increased by 3-4 times, and, according to engineers, this figure is close to the technical maximum. MTS used band3 and band7 frequency aggregation, in the first part of the test using 256-QAM modulation, in the second using 4x4 MIMO, which in practice showed a 10-fold increase in speed compared to 2x2 MIMO.
