How to recover deleted phone book contacts on an Android device

Why did the numbers in the call log disappear?

There may be several reasons for numbers disappearing:

  • disappearance of the list after a system rollback to factory settings (in this case, all data is lost, including the phone book file)
  • accidental deletion of the entire list of numbers by the user himself
  • updating the system may lead to partial loss of information (old files are replaced with new ones)
  • obtaining root rights can lead to irreparable consequences with loss of contacts
  • the appearance of a virus in the operating system
  • system software failure
  • unsuccessful attempt to synchronize with Google account
  • mechanical damage

Synchronization with Google

Unfortunately, Super Backup only restores contacts using a backup copy. If you haven't bothered to create it, then the application will not help you. Interestingly, similar functionality is available in the Android operating system itself. At any time you can create a special file containing all your contacts. But it is much easier to synchronize with Google servers. In this case, they will store an up-to-date copy of the phone book. If synchronization is disabled, then it should be enabled as follows:

Step 1 . Go to the smartphone menu and click on the “Settings” icon.

Step 2 . In this section, click on “Accounts”.

Step 3 . Here, select your Google account. If necessary, tap on your email address.

Step 4 . In this subsection, synchronization settings are configured. You need to enable the checkbox next to the “Contacts” item.

If synchronization was previously enabled, then you can download a backup copy of the phone book to your smartphone at any time. This is done as follows:

Step 1 . Go to the device menu and click on the “Contacts” icon.

Step 2 . Select “Additional actions”, then click on “Restore contacts”.

If you do not have the last item, then this indicates either the absence of a backup copy on the server, or the relevance of your current phone book. You can also search for the desired item in the “Import/Export” subsection.

To restore a backup copy, you can go to the page contacts.google.com - there is also a corresponding button here.

Is it possible to recover deleted contacts?

It is possible to return lost contacts. There are many different ways. The main thing is to begin recovery immediately; the longer you delay this procedure, the more difficult recovery will be.

The success of data recovery may depend on the device model, operating system, and methods chosen.

Restoring a list of numbers is most often carried out internally by devices and third-party software is less often used.

Below we will consider all the working options for restoring the phone book list.

Copying a phone book from a SIM card

To move contacts from a SIM card, you need to open the “Phone” application and select the “Contacts” section.

In the settings, select the “Import/Export” function.

Note : some Android devices have a built-in “Phone” application by default, which does not have this function. In this case, you need to download another application from Google Play services.

In the window that opens, find the Import from SIM card function.

Contacts can be saved:

  • to Google account (recommended action)
  • locally to the phone

By saving contacts in Google, you thereby make a backup copy of the entire list, which can later be edited and transferred to any device linked to your account.

Find out the number from the operator

You know exactly who your mobile operator is - so he will help you remember your forgotten phone number. Different mobile operators do not have a common operating principle, so each provides its own set of capabilities using short numbers with answering machine voice prompts.

Mobile operator Beeline:

  1. Enter the code *110*10# and get a hint;
  2. Call 067410 and follow the robot's further instructions.

Mobile operator Megafon:

  1. Enter the code *205# and get a hint;
  2. Call 0500 and speak to a live company employee, not a robot.

Mobile operator MTS:

  1. Call the Call Center on 0887 for live information;
  2. Enter the code *111*0887# and get a hint.

Mobile operator Tele2:

  1. Enter the code *201# and follow the robot’s further instructions;
  2. Call 611 and ask a specialist how to solve your problem.

Mobile call centers are available at any time of the day.

There is another method to find out your phone number:

  1. Find documents at home with a contract for the provision of mobile communication services - the new number of your phone or smartphone must be indicated there;
  2. If you did not throw away the plastic slot from under the SIM card, then your number is also indicated on it - next to the PIN code.

Personal account in a mobile operator account:

  1. Log in to your account on the website of your mobile operator;
  2. Open your personal account - there is all the information about your phone number, SIM card, PIN codes, and so on.

Recovering contacts from Google cloud storage

This data recovery step can be used as a continuation of saving the phone list from the SIM, as well as as a separate procedure.

If you have previously set up synchronization between your device and the cloud (your Google account is also a cloud service). It is possible to return all phone numbers and e-mail addresses.

You must be logged in to your Google account. Select “Contacts” from the list of services.

On the page where the entire list of numbers should be displayed, find the “Settings Menu” and select the “Cancel changes” function.

Next, select a date and time for the rollback.

Remember, you can restore any version of the list within 30 days.

After reverting to your phone book work list in contacts.google, you can export them to a file for later transfer to your phone.

The last steps can be done directly on your smartphone for more convenient transfer of contacts.

Select “Export” and save the file on your phone.

To add a list to your call log, you need to use the Phone application to download the file. See below.

How to get your old phone number back

I work as a taxi driver, in the evening I pick up two young couples who have been drinking from the beach, when they get into the car I ask them if their clothes are dry, they say yes, I take them to the address one couple leaves, I take the other couple to another address, they pay and start to leave , I notice that the car seats are completely wet, I start to swear, and I demand to pay for dry cleaning of the interior, they say that they don’t have money, and if I take them to another address, they will take out the blanket for me. We get into the car again and drive to the address, we get out, a couple is whispering about something, the guy comes up to the entrance door, tries to open it, but he can’t do it because the keys don’t fit the lock, when I turn around the girl is no longer there, I tell the guy to got into the car, afraid that he would run away. He gets into the car, we drive away from the house, continuing to talk about damaged seats and dry cleaning. Moving around the city, I stop near taxi drivers parked in my pocket and explain the situation to them so that the guy doesn’t think that I’m demanding a lot from him. They say the seats are damaged, please pay for the dry cleaning. We drive further towards his house, on the way he says that he has no money now and asks to take either a passport or a phone as collateral. Having arrived at the address, I agree to take the phone as collateral, pledging to return it to him as soon as he calls and will pay for dry cleaning. I leave him my phone number, writing it down on a piece of paper. The guy is drunk and behaves either calmly or violently. We are still in the car for about 20 minutes talking about this topic. In the end, I tell him that I left my phone number and am waiting for his call and leaving. Since the seats are wet and I won’t be able to carry people, I go to the store and take a bottle of cognac. Arriving home, I tell my wife about what happened, show my phone and put it on the nightstand. Then I eat and drink cognac. In the morning, a police squad arrives, opening the door for them, they ask for my full name, grab me, handcuff me, and drag me into the car, without giving me a chance to get dressed, barefoot and without shoes. Arriving at the department, they ask questions about how I ended up with a phone, I tell them what happened and ask what’s the matter? At this time, my phone was confiscated in my apartment with witnesses. They tell me that the girl wrote a statement that upon arrival at the address, I snatched the phone from her hands, pushed her boyfriend aside and disappeared. They present the article of robbery. When confronted, she says that she and her boyfriend were driving in a car, when they arrived at the address, the seats got wet, they didn’t have money for dry cleaning, when they went out into the street at the address, that I was supposedly the driver, I tore the phone out of her hands and pushed her away guy and disappeared into his car. I work as a taxi using an app, my car is tracked, I arrived to order, through an operator. I also have a video recorder installed in my car, but unfortunately it is old and works intermittently, due to poor contact it turns on and off. In the video you can hear almost the entire trip, the moment when they get into the car, the fact that there are four of them, the fact that they are drunk, when the first couple gets out, when I get the second one out, I find wet seats, I swear, they get into the car again, we are driving to the address, we get out, then we get into the car with the guy again, the girl is no longer there. He and I continue the trip, towards the dry cleaners, there are moments in the conversation where he says take your passport, take your phone, there is a moment when I’m leaving and say that I left my phone number and am waiting for a call. I provided this recording to the investigator. The next day I am called to confront the guy. He already speaks differently than his girlfriend. He says that they were driving fourth, dropped off the first couple, then I drove them to the address, the seats got wet, we went to the third address, got out, the girl went home, he got back into the car, we went to the dry cleaner, it was closed, we stopped near taxi drivers, then we drove towards the house, and supposedly I had already taken his phone, he said that I did not leave the phone number for him, but he wanted to contact me by calling the phone number that I took. There is a moment in the audio recording where I am leaving and you can clearly hear me saying that I left my phone number and am waiting for a call. I don’t know what version they will have next.

Searching for deleted numbers via instant messengers

If the above methods do not produce results, you can partially pull out phone numbers and instant messengers. As you remember, registration in them occurs through a phone number. This means you can pull up the numbers of those with whom you communicated.

Whatsapp search

It's easy to find a phone number on WhatsApp. Select your interlocutors one by one and select “View contact” in the settings.

All the data they provided, including their phone number, will open in a new window.

With a simple tap, the number is copied to the clipboard and is ready to be inserted into the phone book.

Search in Viber

Finding a number in this messenger is a little more difficult.

Select your interlocutor and select the “Information” section in the drop-down menu.

But when you go there, you won’t find the number there; to do this, you need to select the same interlocutor again and tap on the avatar.

Now the phone number is visible. Copy and paste into the phone book.

Apps from Google Market

You can recover deleted contacts on Android, even if they were stored on a SIM card, using special applications, many of which are available in the official Google store. The owner of a smartphone must prepare in advance for a possible failure: some of these programs do not work at all, while others, having successfully found some numbers that for various reasons disappeared from the phone book, stubbornly do not see others.

Still worth a try; One of the best products of its kind is the Contacts Recovery application, which allows you to restore contacts in a few clicks:

  • After downloading and installing the program, the user must launch it and click on the Recover Contacts button.

  • Give Android permission to access the contacts storage.

  • Next, you should find the desired number in the general list and click on the Recover button located next to it.

  • Repeat the action in the next window.

  • And, going to the phone book, make the necessary adjustments to the newly created card.

  • Select a new data storage location.

  • And click on the “Save” button.

The main drawback of the application is the need to repeat the listed manipulations for each lost number. It will not be possible to automate the process - the owner of an Android smartphone will have to look for either another program without any guarantee of its performance, or switch to other methods of restoring contacts.

Restoring contacts through a mobile operator

You can return your contacts through your mobile provider. Each operator has a function for detailing the expenditure of funds. Using it you can collect phone numbers for any period of time. You can order details in your personal account.

The method works, but is labor-intensive. In fact, they will have to be collected manually and entered into the phone.

The big disadvantage is that the numbers will be anonymous and you will have to call everyone.

In the mobile version, on the contrary, there will be only names without a number.

Results

Getting a new SIM card if necessary will not take much time and will be absolutely free. All you need to do in this case is to block the number and come to the phone shop to receive it. You can do this without even leaving your home, and order a SIM with delivery - the cost depends on the address. If you need urgent delivery, you must pay four hundred rubles, and the card will be in your hands within a day. The operator also offers the opportunity to get your old number, even if it was disconnected and the contract was terminated. The only obstacle to this may be that the number has already been purchased by another user, but this is only possible if a sufficiently long time has passed since the disconnection. The cost of such number restoration can be free, and depends on the category of the number, and you can restore the use of not only a mobile number, but also a landline number.

How to restore contacts after resetting Android

Sometimes it happens that you have to roll back Android to factory settings in order to return the system to its previous performance, speed and cleanliness.

But after the reset, no data remains on the device; everything is deleted. Therefore, before making a reset, you need to make backup copies of the necessary data, including the phone book.

  1. Synchronize your device with your Google account and wait for the phone book to be copied.
  2. Save phone numbers to a file and transfer it to the cloud or to your computer's hard drive.
  3. Use any application to create a backup.

Choose a method that is convenient for you, make a backup and further restoration will take no more than 2 minutes.

How to save current contacts

After restoring your phone book, make a backup copy.

  • use the same Android Data Recovery program
  • save the list to your Google account by synchronizing with your device
  • create a “CSV” file for further use using the Phone application

By performing one of these actions, you will forever protect yourself from completely losing your phone book. If this does happen, you will always have a backup copy at hand.

One of the most important things on any Android device is the contact list. It is the smartphone that allows you to quickly and easily contact a family member, friend or work partner. But what to do if you accidentally deleted your phone number? This is a terrible situation, but we will tell you how to recover a deleted phone number on Android.

It doesn’t matter whether you accidentally deleted your phone number or whether it was lost when you obtained Root rights, etc., our article will help you recover deleted numbers on your Android phone.

Restoring from a previous backup

Restoring a phone book from the cloud is described above.

Let's look at how to load a list of numbers from a file prepared as a backup copy.

To do this, use the “Phone” application.

Select “Contacts” and go to the settings menu, where you use the “Import/Export” function.

Next, you will need the “Export to storage” action.

After clicking the “OK” button, the application will find the desired file and load the list into the phone book.

Recover Android phone number using Gmail

If your Android smartphone is synchronized with a Google account, then recovering a deleted phone number will not be difficult. Gmail email offers a great feature that allows you to restore a backup of all your contacts for up to 30 days. After this, you can re-sync your device with your Google account and get all your phone numbers back.

To restore a backup of your contacts, open the Gmail app on your smartphone or computer. Then go to the folder Inbox" and select "Contacts" in the drop-down menu on the left. Recover phone numbers through the database (Root rights required)
If you haven't completely wiped your Android phone, you still have a chance to recover your deleted phone number. Typically, a database file with old contacts is stored deep inside the smartphone.

Depending on the phone manufacturer and Android version, this database file may be stored in different places. For regular Android devices like Nexus 5, the database file should be located here:

The key phrase you should be looking for is provider.contacts/databases. To get to this folder directly from your device, install the aSQLiteManager application, which will allow you to get into your Android phone's database storage and open .db files.

If you find this folder on your device but it is empty, then the phone numbers have been deleted forever.

You can quickly restore a deleted contact using third-party programs; it is more convenient to do this when connecting your smartphone to a laptop or computer.

Android Data Recovery

Android File Recovery is one of the effective and useful data recovery programs. You can use this program to scan all your lost or deleted data and selectively select files to recover:-

Free trial available here on the forum

Don't add new files to your device or delete unnecessary ones.

Adding or deleting files may overwrite your Android files. Therefore, to prevent your Android backup from being overwritten, stop updating your data.

Download and install Android Data Recovery on your computer. Follow four simple steps.

1. Launch the program on your computer and you will see the following interface. Then connect your Android device to your computer.

2. As shown in the window below, you need to enable USB debugging on your device (you must be in developer mode to enable the feature) for the program to detect it.

3. Now that your device has been detected by Android Data Recovery, select what you want to recover and click “Next” in the window.

4. The program has collected all the deleted phone numbers and offers you to select those that need to be restored. To finish, just click the “Recover” button.

Recovering contacts using MiniTool Mobile Recovery for Android

MiniTool Mobile Recovery for Android works in a similar way. You can only get 10 contacts for free, so if you're only willing to get back your most important contacts, even the trial version of MiniTool Mobile Recovery will do.

Recover Lost Contacts on Android Using Minitool Mobile Recovery App

  • Your phone must be rooted.
  • When connecting, specify the data type as “Contacts” and the scanning method as “Quick Scan”.
  • In the “Messages and calls” log, select the “Contacts” checkbox; deleted contacts will appear as they are discovered.
  • To restore contacts on Android, select the ones you need and click "Recover".
  • Available contacts in CSV, HTML and VCF formats will be shown in the Results folder.

Most software that recovers contacts works in a similar way. For example, the Dr. Fone does the same thing as MiniTool Mobile Recovery or MobiSaver: it offers the same recovery options and implements the same limitations. This means that trying all the different apps that can recover Android contacts doesn't make much sense.
