Rostelecom tariffs for mobile communications, Internet and home telephone

Hi all! In this article, we will look at the tariffs of the virtual mobile operator (MVNO) Rostelecom: are there really good offers?

Rostelecom

– the largest Russian provider of digital services and services. Provides broadband Internet access, interactive television, cellular communications and other services. Rostelecom has been involved in mobile communications for several years now - a virtual mobile operator was launched on the infrastructure of the operator Tele2, which Rostelecom subsequently bought out 100% (from March 17, 2020, Rostelecom became the sole owner of Tele2).

We will consider Rostelecom’s tariffs using the example of Moscow and the region. In different regions, parameters and prices, as a rule, differ, but most of the nuances and pitfalls are the same for all of Russia. First, let's evaluate the main parameters and features of all tariffs, and then move on to additional parameters that are common to all of them.

Tariff “New History”

Main parameters:

  • Subscription fee – 250 rubles per month
  • Package of minutes – 200 minutes to local mobile numbers + unlimited to Rostelecom numbers (landline and mobile)
  • Internet package – 4 GB + unlimited traffic for video in the Wink application

Tariff “New History”

Main parameters:

  • Subscription fee – 400 rubles per month
  • Package of minutes – 500 minutes to local mobile numbers + unlimited to Rostelecom numbers (landline and mobile)
  • Internet package – 15 GB + unlimited social networks and instant messengers: Facebook, VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, WhatsApp, Viber, TamTam + unlimited video traffic in the Wink application.

Tariff "Online history"

Main parameters:

  • Subscription fee – 500 rubles per month
  • Package of minutes – 500 minutes to local numbers (including landline) + unlimited to Rostelecom numbers (landline and mobile)
  • Internet package – 40 GB + unlimited social networks and instant messengers: Facebook, VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, WhatsApp, Viber, TamTam + unlimited video traffic in the Wink application.

Tariff "Family History"

Main parameters:

  • Subscription fee – 700 rubles per month
  • Package of minutes – 800 minutes to local mobile numbers + unlimited to Rostelecom numbers (landline and mobile)
  • Internet package – 30 GB + unlimited social networks and instant messengers: Facebook, VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, WhatsApp, Viber, TamTam + unlimited video traffic in the Wink application.
  • Number of SIM cards: from 1 to 5. Additional numbers consume common packages of minutes and Internet.

Tariff “Endless Story”

Main parameters:

  • Subscription fee – 750 rubles per month
  • Package of minutes – 500 minutes to any numbers in Russia + unlimited to Rostelecom numbers (landline and mobile)
  • SMS package – 50 messages.
  • Internet package – 50 GB + unlimited traffic for video in the Wink application.

Additional rates…

Tariff “For Internet”

  • Subscription fee – 499 rubles per month.
  • Internet package – 15 GB.

Tariff "SuperSimka FREE"

  • There is no subscription fee.
  • Calls to numbers in your home region cost 2 rubles per minute.
  • Calls to Rostelecom numbers in other regions of Russia - 3 rubles per minute.
  • Calls to other numbers in other regions of Russia – 9 rubles per minute.

Rostelecom's tariffs are very similar to the tariffs of the mobile operator Tele2, but this is not surprising. However, for Rostelecom, everything is more confusing.

Unlimited Internet

On many Rostelecom tariffs, the Internet is indicated as “Unlimited”, but with a certain package at maximum speed. This implies that after the end of this package, 15, 30, 40 or 50 GB, the Internet will become unlimited, but with limited speed. But Rostelecom’s detailed description of tariffs states:

Tariffs “Whole Story”, “Family Story” and “Endless Story”:

The “500 MB+” option is activated when the main package of Internet traffic under the tariff plan has been used up, if there are more than two days left before the end of the tariff period. The option provides up to 5 additional Internet traffic packages of 500 MB each. After all 5 packages are used up, access to the Internet is suspended.

Tariff "Online history":

If the volume of Internet traffic included in the package is exceeded, Internet access is suspended until the next subscription fee is charged according to the tariff plan. To resume using the Internet, you need to connect an additional Internet package.

Rostelecom technical support informed me that on tariffs where “Unlimited” is indicated, the main mobile Internet package is first consumed, and then “unlimited mobile Internet” is activated with a speed limit of up to 128 Kbps. It sounds logical, but the official website states completely different conditions...

How to activate a Rostelecom SIM card - instructions

Activation is possible only after you have already received the SIM card and accompanying documents. Next you need:

  1. Insert SIM card into phone/smartphone.
  2. The system will ask you for a password. It comes with the card - enter it correctly.
  3. Almost immediately you will see that the communication signal has been picked up.
  4. If the account is not replenished by the amount of the monthly cost of the tariff you have chosen, replenish it.
  5. The selected tariff is activated (automatically).
  6. Now you can use Rostelecom mobile services!

Package of minutes

Virtual mobile operators tend to make a normal package of minutes, which is spent on any numbers in Russia, including landlines. With Rostelecom, on most tariffs, a package of minutes is spent only on local mobile numbers, with the exception of the “Endless Story” tariff (you can call to any numbers in Russia) and the “Family History” tariff (you can call any local numbers, including landlines).

In other cases, you will have to pay separately for calls to city numbers, as well as to numbers in other regions (with the exception of calls to Rostelecom numbers - they are free and unlimited).

News from November 12, 2021 To register SIM cards from Rostelecom at Corporate tariffs, you now need to provide passport data, and possibly original passports. Since at the moment the activation procedure has not been thoroughly worked out, the sale of SIM cards has been temporarily suspended. On November 1, 2017, the law on control over SIM cards came into force; now the telecom operator is responsible for connecting and checking passport data. Also, in case of failure to provide passport data within a period of 2-3 months. already activated SIM cards may be blocked. The corporate tariff from Rostelecom with unlimited Internet is the only inexpensive mobile Internet that works throughout Russia. The main advantage of this tariff can be considered the coverage area. Rostelecom does not have its own cellular towers, but has an agreement with all mobile Internet operators. Priority is given to the Tele 2 operator, but if for some reason there is no signal from the Tele tower in your region or place of residence 2, then in automatic mode your SIM card connects to MTS, Beeline or Megafon.

Additional issues of “Family History”

"Family History" is a family fare. You can connect up to 5 numbers (1 main and 4 additional). Additional numbers consume the packages of the main number and do not have a monthly fee.

The detailed description states: “The monthly fee for the use of each additional group number is free.” And in the notes below the following is already indicated: “The monthly fee for using each additional number of the “Family History” group is 50 rubles.”

Rostelecom technical support confirmed exactly the second option - an additional 50 rubles to the subscription fee of the main number for each additional number connected to the “Family History” tariff.

Rostelecom support service

Like any other major operator, Rostelecom PJSC has a single number designed to connect the subscriber with the operator.

Good to know: Rostelecom support service works around the clock and is available for calls both in Russia and in European countries (international roaming).

By calling the hotline you can:

  • connect, disconnect the service;
  • become a new client of this operator;
  • draw the operator’s attention to shortcomings and quality of service;
  • configure the necessary equipment.

Personal opinion

I didn't like Rostelecom's tariffs. And that's why:

  1. There is no normal unlimited Internet on any of the tariffs, although it is advertised. Yes, the brief description states that there is a package at maximum speed, but what will happen next was only found out in technical support.
  2. There is no normal description of the conditions. I looked at a lot of tariffs from various regular and virtual mobile operators, but I have never seen such an incomprehensible description. What does it cost? “The “500 MB+” option is activated
    when the main package of Internet traffic according to the tariff plan
    . It is clear that these note points were simply copied from somewhere and inattentively edited. And a bonus is that this condition is incorrect, since after using up the main package, unlimited access is activated at speeds of up to 128 Kbps.
  3. Rostelecom's tariffs almost completely copy Tele2's tariffs. And why, one might ask, is Rostelecom needed then? You can switch to an MVNO if it has advantages over regular telecom operators, since simply in terms of communication quality, MVNOs cannot beat mobile operators due to the fact that they operate on the same base stations.

Be careful when choosing a tariff. You should not choose a plan with the maximum amount of traffic, SMS, calls, if you do not use mobile communications much - this is a pointless overpayment.

Features of service provision

  • All of the listed tariff plans from Rostelecom are suitable not only for smartphones, but also for other devices (tablets, modems).
  • SIM cards with the presented tariffs can be purchased throughout Russia, except for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. These entities provide separate proposals.
  • On all Rostelecom tariffs, Internet traffic is rounded up with an interval of 150 KB.
  • When using any package offer, if there is not enough money on the SIM card to extend the tariff, the speed is automatically reduced to 64 Kb/sec, but access to the network is not lost. In order to use the network at the highest possible speed, you need to extend your subscription (by paying an amount equal to or greater than the subscription fee), or purchase some additional package.
