Composition of a cell phone number
The number of a Russian mobile operator starts with 8, and for international calls you need to dial +7. Within the country, there is no difference whether you start dialing with eight or with +7 - the call will be equally successful.
After the international code there is a DEF code, or prefix. This is a non-geographical, non-localized area identifier used in mobile mobile networks. In contrast, there are landline telephone city codes (for Moscow, for example, 495 and 499).
It is by the DEF code that cell numbers are determined by region of Russia and by operator. People from regions with a wide social circle know that telephones with numbers 926, 916 and 977 are Moscow cell numbers, and 911, 921 and 981 are St. Petersburg telephone numbers. As you can see, all Russian numbers after the country code (8 or +7) begin with nine.
In Russia, mobile networks are assigned codes starting with nine, and this makes it easy to determine that the call is coming from a mobile phone. Out of one hundred DEF codes, today only 18 remain unused, and for now they are in reserve.
After the operator code there is a 7-digit group of numbers, which represents a unique subscriber number. Using these numbers, you can determine your operator or region by taking into account the DEF code.
Today, almost a hundred mobile operators are registered in the country. Their list is regularly updated with the addition of virtual telecom operators, which are becoming more and more popular in the market. Thus, one of the most successful areas is considered to be the launch of operators by banks. For example, there are three “banking” operators operating on the Tele2 technical network, and their total subscriber base has already reached almost one and a half million.
Cellular operator codes in Moscow and the Moscow region
How to determine that a phone is connected to a network in Moscow?
It is convenient to use a code table for this. Although more than a hundred mobile operators are registered in Russia, the average subscriber knows a maximum of 5 large ones: Beeline, MTS, Megafon, Yota and Tele2.
As for Yota, this operator previously had numbers throughout Russia starting with the code 999. Given the company’s popularity among users, the number resource became insufficient, and the company was allocated additional number groups, but in different DEF codes.
Here is a list of codes for other operators that indicate that the number is registered in Moscow.
- MTS - 910, 915, 916, 917, 919, 985, 986;
- Beeline - 903, 905, 906, 909, 962, 963, 964, 965, 966, 967, 968, 969, 980, 983, 986;
- MegaFon - 925, 926, 929, 936, 999;
- Tele2 - 901, 958, 977, 999;
- Iota - 995, 996, 999.
It is worth mentioning that the structure of numbers is not as clearly tied to regions as that of MTS and MegaFon. A number with code 905 can belong to both Moscow and, for example, the Republic of Bashkortostan, and in total numbers in it are allocated for sixty regions. Unique codes are valid only for the Far East, Primorsky Territory.
Operator codes of the North-West and St. Petersburg
From this table you can find out what codes the numbers registered in the North-Western District of Russia begin with. Note that the North-Western District, in addition to the Northern capital, includes ten regions.
- MTS - 911, 912, 917, 919, 981, 982, 987, 988, 989;
- Beeline - all prefixes except 961 and 962;
- MegaFon - 904, 921, 922, 927, 929, 931, 932, 937, 939, 999;
- Tele2 - 900, 901, 902, 904, 908, 950, 951, 952, 953, 991, 992;
- Iota - 958, 991, 995, 996, 999.
Caucasus mobile number series
For numbers from the Southern Federal District and the Caucasus, the following numbers in the prefix are typical:
- MTS - 917, 988, 989, 919, 987, 918, 978, 986, 988, 989;
- Beeline - All prefixes
- MegaFon - 902, 904, 908, 921, 927, 928, 929, 931, 937, 938, 999;
- Tele2 - 900, 901, 902, 904, 908, 950, 951, 952, 953, 995;
- Iota - 991, 995, 996, 999.
How to call numbers with the 919 code?
From a mobile or landline phone
If you are going to call from a mobile, landline or landline phone, then use the following dialing format: +7 (or just 8), code 919, and then the subscriber number using the mask: xxx-xx-xx.
Set examples:
- +7
- 8
From the office
As a rule, to call a mobile phone from the office, you must first “connect to a landline connection.” To do this, you need to dial a code - usually the number “9” or “0”. Usually, after dialing the code, you should wait for a long beep, press the number “8”, wait for the long beep again and enter the subscriber number: 919 xxx-xx-xx. If the numbers “9” and “0” are not suitable, ask which number your colleagues “go out into the city” through.
Set examples:
- 9, "beep", 8, "beep",
- 0, "beep", 8, "beep",
To a phone located abroad, from the territory of the Russian Federation
If the called subscriber with code 919 is abroad, then the dialing method does not change - you should dial the number in the same way as if the subscriber were near you.
Set examples:
- 8
- +7
From a mobile phone, from abroad
If you are outside the territory of the Russian Federation, then, as a rule, to make a call to a mobile phone, you first need to “go to international communication”. Different countries have different exit codes, but as a rule they are 00, 011 or 0011. After dialing the code, you should dial “seven” (7), code 919 and the subscriber number itself: xxx-xx-xx. You can find out the exit code in a specific country by asking local residents, for example in English: “ Tell me please, how I can call on mobile phone?”
