Two MTS SIM cards with one number: myth or reality?

How do scammers make a double SIM card? How to find out if there is a duplicate sim

How do scammers make a double SIM card? And how do you know that a phone number has a duplicate SIM card ? How to detect the appearance of a mobile double in time ? There may be different schemes for obtaining duplicate cards. Of course, the easiest way is if the scammer himself works in a communication shop.

Another option, on the contrary, may be the user’s desire to receive one SIM card, but so that it contains several numbers. This allows a device with one slot to use a SIM card containing several numbers that can be used for calls to different operators, messages, or the Internet.

Also, some users want to have a duplicate of their SIM card just in case. One example of such use is the ability to use a second one if a person has forgotten his phone at home. However, in modern conditions this option is unlikely. Today, a person is more likely to leave home without a passport or wallet than without a cell phone.

Part 7: How to find out if my phone is cloned

Since cloning a phone is so easy, you may be concerned that someone else might have done it to your phone.

If so, you can check if your phone is cloned using the following methods:

  1. Ask your carrier for your cell phone records. Review all outgoing calls and internet data usage to make sure you did it all. If you are making calls to strange numbers, it is likely that someone has cloned your phone number.
  2. If you find anything unusual in your call recordings, you can contact your carrier and ask for a diagnostic test. If there are bugs or the phone is hacked, you will find it.
  3. Enter your number into a search service and see if it is present on unwanted sites that you do not use.
  4. Dial your own mobile number. If someone answered the call, it means that your SIM card has been cloned.

So as soon as you discover that your number has been hacked, do the following:

  1. Check all credit and debit cards to be sure they have not been used.
  2. Change PIN codes and passwords for all your accounts.
  3. Report the problem to your operator.

Why do you need a duplicate?

A real alternative can only be to use an Internet package and other services on several numbers. However, this will require not only paying for such a service, but also buying an additional SIM card from the same operator. Possible problems

After the data has been written to it, you need to install a new card into the device, connect it to the computer, and use the program to complete the cloning process. After rebooting the device, you can use a clone of the SIM card. However, obtaining a duplicate SIM card may be required in other situations. Today we will tell you which MTS, MegaFon, Beeline, and Tele2 SIM cards can be duplicated, and how to do it.

[edit] Methods of application

The most obvious way is to insert a clone of the card into another phone. This can be useful in order not to constantly move the card from the phone to the modem for the laptop, or, for example, from an expensive communicator to a cheap “handset” for forays into nature. You can also share one “unlimited” package between two subscribers, thereby saving on subscription fees. This method of cloning is officially supported; for a one-time or monthly fee, the operator provides another SIM card ().

If you managed to clone several SIM cards from different operators, you can write them together into a silver card (multi-SIM card), and then use them in one phone, switching through the menu.

New “multisim”

This allows a device with one slot to use a SIM card containing several numbers that can be used for calls to different operators, messages, or the Internet.

An important question is how much does such a duplicate MegaFon or Beeline SIM card cost? And here it all depends on where the programmer is purchased. You can order it on Ali for 150-200 rubles, but here they sell from 500 rubles.

Here we will take a closer look at how a Beeline SIM card is replaced with a micro one. There is nothing complicated about this either, you will keep your number, tariff plan, and account.

MTS team service

Checking the Internet balance of MTS Belarus:

To check the remaining number of megabytes, you need to dial *558#call. The rest of the Internet will be displayed on the screen of your device.

Checking your MTS Belarus balance:

To check your balance *100# call. The balance will be displayed on the screen of your device.

The fee for using the Internet above the limit is 3.75 Belarusian rubles per 100 MB.

Duplicate SIM card: what is it, why is it needed, how to do it

From any work number, you must call the support service 0611 and leave a request for a duplicate, providing your details. This service will tell you which address to contact. Be sure to take your passport with you. You can order delivery of a finished card by courier (payment is debited directly from your phone balance), but it should be noted that this is not available in all regions. Megaphone

All mobile operators allow you to issue a duplicate SIM card. But a clone for use in multiple mobile devices is not allowed. Official duplication for such purposes is not permitted.

Getting a copy of the card due to loss, damage or change in format is not a problem. They are issued to the owner of the number in any salon. But there are also illegal copying methods that are used for use in several phones. Such actions are risky and prevented by the provider.

Why set up SIM cards?

This needs to be done in order to receive calls only on one or two SIM cards at the same time, and also to be able to access the Internet from the selected SIM card, as well as distribute Wi-Fi.

  • Why the MTS SIM card does not work on the phone: reasons and what to do?

An Android phone is essentially a small computer, so many computer approaches can be applied to it. Namely, the configuration of SIM cards occurs in hardware and software (hardware + software).

For example, if you enable only one SIM card on your phone programmatically, that is, make it active, and leave the second SIM card inactive, but do not disable it in hardware, then you will eventually see a crossed out circle icon on your phone. This icon means that the phone has two SIM cards, but one of them is empty, or rather, it is not in the phone.

The screenshots were taken on a Samsung Android phone and the settings are described using this model as an example.

Why do you need a SIM card clone?

There are several good reasons for SIM proliferation. The main ones are related to ease of use.

  1. Installing one number in several gadgets at once, so as not to rearrange the SIM card. It is prohibited to make two SIM cards for one Tele2 number.
  2. Receiving one card with several numbers at once. A rare case, but subscribers are trying to create a device that incorporates two or more mobile phones. This way you can use the device to organize communication with several operators.

A SIM card clone is made just in case. For example, to carry a backup method of communication with you if you forgot your phone at home. Also an unlikely scenario: the gadget is too important, and few people don’t check it before leaving.

Most often they try to make two SIM cards for one Tele2 number, but the company’s policy does not imply this. And then unofficial duplicators come into play.

What is a TWIN card

MTS TWIN card is a special service that offers its users to receive two SIM cards with the same number. At the moment, it is officially impossible to purchase a TWIN kit in the Russian Federation. However, on the territory of Belarus you can take advantage of such an offer. To do this, you need to contact the office and write an application for the provision of services.

Cards can be used in one telephone set, or in two different ones, and there are two modes of operation of Twin cards:

  • Simultaneous, when both SIM cards are active on the network and can receive calls. Here the cards can be of different sizes, both standard and micro; their size must be indicated in the application for the set. In this case, dialing can be parallel or sequential; this is also indicated in the application.
  • Alternating - when the first card is working, the second one loses activity on the network, that is, the equipment where the second one is installed will need to be turned off while the first one is working. In this case, SIM cards will only be standard sizes.

Reception of messages, text or multimedia, is available only for one of the SIM cards. You can purchase the kit at any of the MTS communication stores in Belarus; it costs 12.5 rubles in the currency of the republic. You can cancel your Twin Card by visiting any nearest salon.

There is also a restriction on the use of Twin cards on a number of tariffs, these are:

  • Unlimited;
  • Corporate unlimited Internet;
  • Internet for home.

The impossibility of purchasing a duplicate SIM card and Twin set on the territory of the Russian Federation requires the search for other ways to establish communication, for example the “Double Number” special offer, but we will talk about this next time.

Make a duplicate SIM card yourself

Regardless of the reason for needing to duplicate your phone, you can try making a clone using a SIM duplicator. It is sold on the Internet and in stalls selling cell phone accessories. But even if the operation is successful, restrictions on reading information are not guaranteed.

The device is similar to a card reader that connects to a computer. To record, you will need a SIM card, which can be purchased separately or included with a duplicator.

When choosing a blank, it is taken into account which take is being made:

  • a simple copy of a valid SIM;
  • recording from several cards, including different operators.

Before you begin, disable the PIN code request, if requested. The method for cloning a Tele2 SIM card does not work with it. The card is installed in the programmer and connected via a USB cable to the computer. Next you need to follow the instructions for the device.

  • From December 1, it will be impossible to buy, replace or restore a SIM card from the MTS operator in Crimea.

When purchasing, you need to check the availability of software to work. If you don't have it, you can find the software on the Internet. After the duplicate is registered in the operator’s database, the rules of use are taken into account. As a rule, providers do not allow two identical SIM cards, so using both at once can lead to blocking.

Can I do it myself?

Like many other mobile operators, MTS does not provide the service of using “clones” of SIM cards. You can perform the steps to copy the card yourself, but this procedure is not legal. Please understand that not all SIM cards can be copied. The easiest way is to duplicate the old SIM cards that were released a few years ago.

You can duplicate a card from MTS either to a regular SIM card or to a multicard. For these purposes, you will need a special duplicator (programmer), when purchasing which you need to take into account the quality of its software. Copy the information onto a blank SIM card, the format of which (mini or micro) must match the format of the old card.

The cost of this procedure depends on the price of the duplicator. On the territory of the Russian Federation it varies from 600 to 900 rubles. Before you begin the procedure, you must disable the password request on the old card. Then the SIM card is inserted into the programmer and connected to the computer. After launching the corresponding software, the card is scanned and the information is recorded in a separate file. Then a blank SIM card is simply installed in the duplicator, onto which the copied data is written.

Get a duplicate from the operator

A subscriber who wants to receive an official copy of his SIM must contact a communication salon. This option is applicable if you need to replace a faulty or lost card.

is provided for restoration in case of blocking, breakage or loss. The cost of connecting and issuing a new card is 0₽.

How to make a duplicate Tele2 SIM card: the subscriber comes with identification documents that were used when concluding an agreement with the provider. After checking with the information from the database, the employee registers a new blank with the specified phone number. The duplicate is not issued to third parties. The exception is issuance by a notarized power of attorney.

The question of cost is not relevant. New SIM cards are issued free of charge. And this helps to contact the operator as soon as necessary.

If you don’t have time to get to the salon, delivery is also possible. On Tele2, registration of a SIM card in another region is not carried out, unlike other operators, for example, Beeline.

Replacement does not take much time. After the application, a few minutes later the phone number is recorded on the disc. SIM comes in three sizes to fit slots on all models. After restoration, the subscriber uses his number and the full range of services; the balance does not change either.

The procedure for obtaining a duplicate depends on your goals. When an official copy is required, it is enough to apply with your passport at any Tele2 office. But if you need to transfer identical cards for several phones or, conversely, combine many contacts in one slot, you will have to use a duplicator. Such actions are done at your own peril and risk, because the subscriber prevents such operations.

For various reasons, many people use numbers that were assigned to them by someone else - friends, relatives or just good acquaintances. But using someone else's SIM card for a long time can be problematic. If only because if it is lost without the owner, it will not be possible to reissue it, or switch to another operator while maintaining the number.

Therefore, it is important to know how to re-register a SIM card owner and what is needed for this. Our article will tell you about all the nuances in detail.

An Android phone with two SIM cards is usually purchased in order to insert two SIM cards, possibly from different mobile operators, and end up carrying one instead of two phones. However, in fact, sometimes they still use one SIM card.

Contents: 1. Why set up SIM cards 2. Where to look for SIM card management 3. How to set up two SIM cards on an Android phone 4. How to disable the second SIM card 5. How to enable the second SIM card on Android 6. About the number of SIM cards in the phone

For example, I gave up the idea of using a second SIM card in a dual-SIM phone. “The old fashioned way” I continue to use two phones. I refused, in particular, because of the problems that may arise when switching from a regular SIM card to a mini SIM card, which must be done for a dual-SIM phone. It turns out that it is advisable to first go to the bank to notify about the change in the size of the SIM card (and, accordingly, about the change in its serial number), although the phone number remains the same. But without the code that comes in an SMS message to your phone, you won’t be able to confirm many actions on the Internet.

In addition, it is not always possible to remember what, that is, what important but rarely used service account the phone is attached to and, accordingly, where else a problem may arise when changing the SIM card format. True, the existence of such sensitivity on the size of the SIM card still depends on the specific bank and specific services. Perhaps as technology develops, this problem will go away.

Is it possible to reissue a SIM card?

Yes, you can transfer a SIM card to yourself or another person. This service is provided by absolutely all Russian mobile operators. True, you won’t be able to rewrite the number remotely; you need to personally go to the salon of the company that registered the SIM card.

There are several scenarios in which the procedure can take place. One of them is relatively fast, the other not so much. To do everything quickly, you need to visit the office of the mobile operator together with the owner of the number, taking documents with you. Then things proceed as follows:

  1. Salon employees check the passports of both applicants.
  2. You are asked to write an application for re-issuance of a SIM card.
  3. You pay for the service. How much it costs will depend on the operator. Usually the amount is from 50 to 350 rubles.

Of course, not every SIM card owner has the opportunity to visit the operator’s office in person. For example, a person may live in another city altogether. In this case, re-registration is also possible, but you will have to provide documents confirming the fact that they are ready to give the number to you, or confirm ownership for other reasons. Depending on the circumstances, you may need:

  • owner's passport;
  • power of attorney;
  • death certificate;
  • certificate of inheritance.

MTS unlimited internet tariff for smartphone

One of the most popular tariff plans is called the offer for 990 rubles per month. The indicated monthly fee includes a new SIM card with unlimited 4G/LTE traffic, operating at maximum speed both in Moscow and the region, and in different regions of the country.

Even the popular “Super” tariff cannot compare with such an offer; connection is free. As part of the tariff plan, the subscriber can listen to online music, communicate with friends on social networks, download files, etc. Offers classified as exclusive remain unchanged throughout the entire time, regardless of how long they are used - a month or a year .

Plus, clients of the site have the opportunity to connect to any of the current tariffs - “Tariffische”, “Netariff”, Smart. Consultants will select the best number and help you activate the necessary services, for example, MTS-TV. For simple and convenient tariff management, you need to download the application to your phone and register in your personal account. The client's personal data is protected.

Authorized users not only receive round-the-clock access to their personal account, but also the right to constant technical support. To do this, you don’t need to call the operator, just ask a question online.

How to re-register a SIM card for yourself

Russian mobile operators have not yet created a unified standard for re-issuing SIM cards. Each has its own requirements, application forms and other nuances. To avoid getting into trouble and running to the company’s office several times, it is better to familiarize yourself with the procedure in advance. To do this, you can call the hotline or use online consultation on the company’s official website.

Now in more detail about how to re-register a SIM card with popular Russian operators.

Re-registration of MTS number

Before renewing a SIM card from MTS, you should know that the Reds require the personal presence of both parties or their official representatives. This means that in the absence of the owner of the number, you cannot do without a notarized power of attorney.

Before going to the salon, consider:

  • There should be no debt on the SIM card balance.
  • The remaining funds in the account are transferred to the new owner.
  • Money for re-registration is debited from the personal account of the new owner.

For any questions, you can call the MTS contact center at 8-800-250-0990.

Beeline number renewal

Beeline is the easiest way to reissue a SIM card. Company employees do not require the personal presence of the owner and fuss with powers of attorney. However, you will still have to confirm the consent of the previous owner of the number.

  • How to restore an MTS SIM card without a passport

The whole procedure goes like this:

  1. Go to the Beeline office with your passport, after making sure that there is no debt on the number balance. Having any documents from the person for whom the SIM card is issued will simplify the process.
  2. If there are no documents, the salon employee will ask you to name the dates of the last 5 top-ups, the approximate time of 10 incoming and outgoing calls.
  3. The owner of the SIM card will be required to answer an incoming call from Beeline and confirm the renewal.

Additional information can be obtained by calling the number 0611.

Renewal of Megafon number

Perhaps the most difficult thing is to transfer a SIM card to another person from MegaFon. The owner of the number must contact the exact office where the contract was concluded. If this is not possible, you will have to write a power of attorney in one of the company’s branches, or have it notarized.

The conditions are as follows:

  • Re-registration only in the presence of the old and new owners, or their legal representatives.
  • You must provide the new owner's passport and the old owner's documents.
  • Re-registration will cost 150 rubles, which must be on the balance along with the amount covering the subscription fee for all connected services.

MegaFon support phone number for consultations - 0500.

Re-registration of Tele2 number

How to renew a Tele2 SIM card? Everything here is similar to other mobile operators, with the only difference being that you can re-register your number completely free of charge. This requires:

  • Personal presence in the operator’s office of both parties with passports, or a power of attorney from the old owner certified by a notary.
  • Write an application for number transfer.

For all questions, call the Tele2 hotline - 611.

How to set up two SIM cards on an Android phone

Below in the screenshot (Fig. 4) you can see that SIM 2 has been renamed and is called Nadezhda. It is for this that the reception of calls and the Internet is configured, namely:

  • Voice call,
  • Video call,
  • Data network.

Such settings can be made in the SIM Card Manager, in the “Preferred SIM Card” section:

Rice. 4. Two SIM cards on an Android smartphone

If, for example, you specify for the 2nd SIM card that it will “catch” the Internet, then everything else will be configured automatically (Fig. 4-1). And there will be no “No network” message on the main page of the phone.

If you click on the inscription “Data network” (Fig. 4), a window for selecting your preferred SIM card will appear (Fig. 4-1).

Rice. 4-1. We choose which of the two SIM cards will “catch” the Internet.

In the same way, as shown in Fig. 4 and 4-1, you can select your preferred SIM card for voice calls and for video calls. At the same time, both SIM cards remain connected in hardware, as evidenced by two points in the SIM Card Manager (Fig. 4):

  1. SIM 1 and Nadezhda cards are shown as active. If one of them is not active, its name will be written in pale gray.
  2. The "Active Mode" option is configured to "Receive calls on both SIM cards even during a call."

How to disable the second SIM card

If you don’t need a second SIM card (for me it’s SIM 1) and in fact it’s not in the phone, then you can safely turn it off. To do this, tap on the name SIM 1, a window will open:

Rice. 5. SIM 1 card included

To disable the SIM card, tap on the green slider (in the red frame in Fig. 5). After this, the engine will turn from active, green, to gray, inactive:

Rice. 6. SIM card is turned off

SIM 1 SIM card is disabled, so now there is no crossed out circle that was in Fig. 1 when SIM card is on.

One SIM card with number 2 is active:

Rice. 7. Only one SIM card with number 2 works

How to enable a second SIM card on Android

  • You need to insert a second SIM card into the phone,
  • then in Settings open SIM Card Manager (Fig. 3),
  • tap on the name of the second SIM card (Fig. 4),
  • and then move the engine from the “Off” position (Fig. 6) to the “On” state (Fig. 5).

The “Active mode” option (Fig. 4) must also be enabled, which provides the “Receive calls on both SIM cards even during a call” function.

If the Internet needs to be configured for the second SIM card, then in the SIM Manager, in the “Preferred SIM card” tab (Fig. 4), in the “Data network” option, select the desired SIM card from the two.

How to re-register a SIM card without the owner

Almost all of the methods listed require the participation of the real owner of the number. But what if he disappeared, moved to another country, died, or simply does not communicate? In this case, only Beeline can accurately rewrite the SIM card - for this mobile operator, it is enough that you actually own the number and can prove it.

As for other companies, they will most likely refuse you. However, it’s still worth a try; the decision will depend on the surrounding circumstances, which differ from case to case. It is better to call your mobile operator's hotline and describe the situation in detail. If re-registration is possible, they will tell you what and how to do it.

Taking into account the growing activity of fraudsters and the emergence of new ways to obtain confidential information that allows access to funds on Ukrainian plastic cards, it cannot but worry people who daily use non-cash transactions for their needs. Therefore, the detective agency DASC - Ukraine tried to understand the question “Is it easy to make a duplicate SIM card in Ukraine?”, as well as who benefits and who is in demand for duplicate SIM cards of Ukrainian mobile operators? The lion's share of bank clients use all kinds of services when making purchases in supermarkets, transferring funds through individual resources, and using universal applications that allow making purchases and performing any type of operation. The techniques used by fraudsters are evolving and continue to develop dynamically with the times. Thus, according to statistics, the number of crimes committed through skimming and phishing in Ukraine has sharply decreased. More recently, in order to obtain information about a plastic card, scammers used special overlays on ATMs, providing skimming technology. At the same time, the technical device read all the data about the card number, owner, cvv code from the magnetic stripe and provided access to valuable information for attackers, who could subsequently make a copy of the card or use the information to withdraw funds via the Internet. The phishing procedure pursued a similar goal - to obtain secret data about a debit card, using a different strategy of using fake resources on the network, sending fake letters, etc. Nowadays, the strategy of fraudsters has undergone changes, posing a new threat to cardholders, many of whom have already become victims of attackers.

The role of SIM cards for an attacker in social engineering

Currently, almost all banking transactions have several degrees of protection, the basis of which is the number and directly the SIM card of the owner of the plastic card, to which information about all events is linked. You receive notifications on your phone about charges through the banking service, as well as messages containing a password to confirm the payment. It is the phone that serves as a kind of key to enter your account to make online payments. More than 20 million Ukrainians are clients of Privat Bank and are familiar first-hand with the possibilities of using Privat-24 services. Assessing the capabilities of the service and the weaknesses of mobile operators, fraud is based on the availability on the market of services for restoring and obtaining SIM cards, which are provided by any communication provider. These actions of scammers refer to the term “social engineering,” which implies gaining access to strictly confidential information without the use of any technical means. The technique of cognitive distortions is based on surprise, providing a volume of confidential data on behalf of the fraudster in order to gain access to the SIM card.

Goals and capabilities of the SIM card replacement service

The services of mobile operators that operate on the territory of Ukraine lie not only in the area of providing high-quality and reliable communications. Having lost their own SIM card, each subscriber can take the opportunity to apply for number restoration and soon receive a new one in the official salon. In this case, the reason for replacement can also be cases such as a failure of the SIM card or a desire to replace the current card with a similar one of a different micro or nano size for use in a newly purchased smartphone. Therefore, a call to the operator will not surprise the call center representatives and will be adequately received, without standing out from the crowd with its originality. Considering that in Ukraine telephone numbers are not linked to passport data, and subscribers are not identified, the operator is not able to fully verify the identity of the caller. Thus, the order of a new SIM card is carried out based on answers to questions regarding the last replenishment, phone numbers to which the subscriber most often calls, and the current account balance. At the same time, it is quite logical that many real subscribers who do not belong to the category of scammers are confused by the question regarding the keyword or puck code number, which may be completely lost. Therefore, the lack of answers to such questions will not be a reason for refusing to issue a new SIM card. To obtain it, a fraudster can use any fake passport or power of attorney. A simple communication procedure along with receipt will generally take no more than 15-20 minutes.

The position of the operators and the opinion of the detective

“Does the operator have any idea about such a scam scheme?” you ask, of course, yes. In this direction, they are pursuing only their own benefit, while data security is not actually guaranteed. It is quite obvious that the social essence of the service lies in the opportunities that are designed to make life easier for a subscriber who finds himself in an uncomfortable situation. According to statistics, the number of lost and replaced SIM cards at the end of the past year in Ukraine amounted to more than half a million. An experienced private detective from Kharkov (specializing in investigations in cyberspace) comments on the current situation: “A duplicate SIM card provides full rights to make payments in the amount of up to $100, and when using Privat-24 a much larger amount can be withdrawn funds, since to use the program, in fact, you do not need the plastic card itself. At the same time, scammers do not hesitate to make calls at the subscriber’s expense, using for their own convenience one SIM card that contains a dozen of these stolen numbers.”

Security of the SIM card owner

As a result, the combination of banking services and operator capabilities gave rise to a new wave in the development of fraud. At the same time, in MTS (now Vodafone-Ukraine) there is an opinion that it was the provision of banking services that served as the impetus for the activation of fraudsters, while in Kyivstar they believe that the simplified procedure for all processes is to blame: from receiving a SIM card to transferring funds to other accounts. However, both operators acknowledge the problem as such. Vodafone does not agree that it is possible to easily take possession of a duplicate SIM card. The procedure is simplified so that the receiving process does not turn into collecting data for the provision of the long-awaited Schengen visa, but it requires data that can only be owned by the real subscriber. A colleague, a private detective from Kyiv, commented on the current situation from the legal side: “The issue of data security lies solely in the competence of the subscriber himself. The very fact of hacking and obtaining a duplicate will not become a reason for a police investigation or a complaint to the courts. Agreements concluded with banks and mobile operators are written in such a way that full responsibility is shifted towards the client. At the same time, it’s even stupid to hope that the telecom operator will begin to search for attackers and then bring them to justice.” The defenseless status of the clients was confirmed by a Kharkov colleague, a representative of a private investigation. “The bank independently determines the sufficiency of authentication procedures for its clients at the level of operator services. This means that the potential hack is bound by the third party policy. At the same time, the role of mobile operators and their responsibilities do not appear at all in the prescribed obligations in the field of guaranteeing the subscriber’s rights to a SIM card.”

Benefit comes first

The words of private detectives - information security experts should be understood as nothing other than a statement of the fact that there is no guarantee of reliable identification of a prepaid communication subscriber. If a card is lost, everyone can try to prove their right to use the number, but everything, one way or another, depends solely on the employees represented by the operator, who, in turn, can rely to some extent on assumptions and assumptions. The detectives unanimously note that the operators themselves do not want to solve the problem of protecting SIM cards, since they are absolutely indifferent to who exactly is hiding under the guise of a subscriber. There are no obligations documented in the contract for the SIM card replacement service from mobile operators and the service, in fact, lies in the plane of a favor. At the same time, any operator emphasizes that, if necessary, it is possible to assign a certain number to oneself and guarantee one’s rights in this direction only by switching to a contract form of service. As for the actions of banking services, they are aimed at providing comfort and convenience for customers who must gain access to their funds. It is obvious that the same Privat Bank does not consider the stability and usefulness of SMS authentication as an important factor of stability. It is more important that the transactions are assigned to the client, and the bank will always be able to find a way to recover funds. At the same time, the bank is often not at all interested in whether a fraudster is hiding under the guise of a client.

Detective agency findings:

In modern conditions, unfortunately, subscribers can only rely on their own vigilance and conscious actions in the field of confidentiality. Otherwise, we can only hope that in the future a compromise will be found and a dialogue will be established between operators and representatives of banks, on the basis of which a secure method of identifying subscribers will be developed. In the meantime, the subscriber only needs to adequately respond to situations and, in the event of a potential threat, block the card in a timely manner, withdraw funds from it and immediately go to the bank to write a statement, avoiding the loss of funds in their accounts. As for the application to the Police, this action will not bring the expected result in the context of the consideration and subsequent search for criminals and makes sense only in order to prove in communication with bank representatives that there was a crime involving fraudsters, and not one’s own desire to deceive the bank or any seller. Well, if the incident and the fact of fraud took place, then the DASC detective agency is ready to take up the investigation, identify the persons involved in the forgery of the SIM card and the theft of confidential information or bank funds.

By duplicating someone's SIM card, scammers gain access to literally everything. Among the stolen goods are not only millions of rubles, which are simply stolen through a mobile bank, but also something that for some is more valuable than money.

Famous blogger from Dagestan Dibir Dibirov became a victim of cyber attackers. First they threatened him on social networks, and then they moved to direct action. From a distance, they took possession of the blogger’s SIM card and gained access to his bank accounts. “Within 10 minutes I canceled my Sberbank cards, both were blocked. When I went to write a statement, the police advised me to contact the FSB. Because they have a special department there, on the Internet,” says Dibirov. The cyber saboteur could have easily taken possession of Dibirov’s savings, but, fearing charges for fraud, he limited himself to hooliganism in the form of blocking cards. And in the case of the artist Natalya Rudova, the swindlers did not hide. While she was vacationing abroad, they ordered a reissue of the SIM card and, on behalf of the celebrity, begged for money from her celebrity friends. Via messenger. “There were people who transferred money when asked via Viber. Bank cards and social networks were blocked, passwords were changed everywhere. They managed to do this,” explained Angelina Dubrovskaya, the commercial director of the actress.

Introduced this week, MTS corporate subscribers will be able to attach two phone numbers to one SIM card and use them alternately.
Connecting to the new service is free for now. MTS has expanded its range of corporate solutions by introducing a solution that allows you to assign two phone numbers to one SIM card and use them alternately on any mobile phone. Thanks to this, the client, for example, gets the opportunity to separate work and personal communication, without the need to purchase more expensive devices with support for two SIM cards, according to a press release.

available on all tariff plans, with the exception of “SIM”, “i-Online”, “MTS Connect.Netbook”, “MTS 3G Router Corp” and “Telematics Corp” and allows you to make and receive calls, receive and send SMS and MMS messages, as well as use other services from any of the two numbers connected to one SIM card. The choice of active number is carried out by the subscriber independently using the “MTS Services” section in the phone menu.

You can connect using one of the following options for combining numbers: maintaining two current MTS numbers, maintaining one current one and receiving one new MTS number, or receiving two new MTS numbers. Moreover, both numbers must belong to the same MTS region, the company notes.

The new service is currently available only to corporate subscribers.
Phone numbers can be allocated to one subscriber under one or two contracts, while within the service, private and corporate phone numbers can be combined on one SIM card. Invoices for communication services can be issued either together or separately in accordance with the previously selected tariff plan. Topping up a subscriber's account occurs according to the standard procedure for each number separately, the numbers belong to different personal accounts, and together if there is one personal account.

According to Prime-TASS, this week the service is being introduced in all regions of Russia, in addition, it is possible that in the future a similar service will be offered to private subscribers. Until April 30, 2010, connecting to the service and issuing a SIM card is free, but after this date the cost may be revised.

Some foreign mobile operators have experience in providing services with dual numbers. In particular, the Estonian Elisa and Tele2 provide SIM cards with support for two numbers for both corporate and private users. The Czech branch of Vodafone provides a service for its corporate clients that allows you to create two independent numbers on one SIM card. Similar services are provided by the Orange mobile operator for corporate and private subscribers in Moldova.

Short link A duplicate MTS SIM card is a full-fledged working copy of a SIM card with the same information that is recorded on the original, the same tariff and total balance. The peculiarity of using such cards is that every action on one card is instantly reflected in the state of the second. That is, changing the tariff plan on the original will certainly lead to a change in the tariff on the clone; making a call or other paid actions will affect the overall balance or the balance of the service packages. Considering the above, users should think about whether they really need a second card. Moreover, telephone operators registered in Russia do not provide services for copying SIM cards, preferring to leave clients with one copy. At the same time, they immediately carry out the procedure of replacing the SIM card with a new one with similar data if the old one is damaged. Theoretically, this approach is designed to increase the security of clients’ personal data and finances. In reality, it can bring certain inconveniences to subscribers who need an additional card. Is it possible to have 2 SIM cards for one MTS number? It was already mentioned above that mobile companies operating in the country are not ready to register two SIM cards for one MTS number at once. In return, they offer combined tariffs that allow you to use communication services on several independent but interconnected cards at once. True, connecting an additional SIM card turns out to be paid, and the total number of connected cards is limited. But, if we return to the issue of using a clone, it should be noted that theoretically the use of a second card is possible. But not from the operators' point of view. For them, the question of whether it is possible to duplicate a SIM card has only one answer - negative. Therefore, if they find out about the appearance of a copy: Both cards will be instantly blocked. The subscriber will have to explain what is happening. There is a high probability of termination of the subscription agreement. It will be extremely difficult to conclude the agreement again and buy a new SIM card, even after preparing all the documents. The company will refuse to cooperate with a person who is ready to violate its rights and established rules for using services. Why duplicate a SIM card? There are no universal reasons common to all people to create a duplicate SIM card. Typically, such a desire is caused by: the need to use one SIM on several devices; fear of losing the card and being left without mobile communications; moving to another region of the country where it will be impossible to get a replacement for a damaged SIM card at the MTS office for free (the cost of an official replacement will be 400 rubles); the desire to save on paying for mobile communications by using one tariff on several devices. There are other answers to the question of why people need a copy of their own SIM card. Each person who thought about creating a clone had his own reasons that forced him to start copying the card. What unites such people is the lack of a legal, official way to achieve the desired result. They will definitely have to use the help of private specialists or order special equipment for cloning the card and transferring information. How to order a duplicate MTS SIM card? Those who want to figure out how to make a duplicate MTS SIM card should take into account that they will need a special device (duplicator). It can be bought in specialized stores, although it is not very common, or ordered in foreign online stores. Once the device is in the user's hands, he can make a copy himself. To do this you will need: Insert the existing SIM card into the duplicator. Connect the device to a computer or laptop (via USB port). Start the process of copying information (IMSI, PUK code and encryption key will be copied). Remove the SIM card and replace it with a clean one. Start the process transferring the saved information. After that, all that remains is to pull out the finished copy and check the result. Usually it fully meets expectations, so users get the opportunity to use the clone and the original simultaneously on different devices. in Moscow Compare 4 offers from MTS Bank and choose the best multi-currency bank card. How to protect yourself from SIM card fraud?

Roskachestvo experts have prepared recommendations that should help people protect themselves from fraud when performing various operations with SIM cards. The department reported this on Thursday. “To make online purchases and receive SMS notifications about all transactions that occur with bank cards, any client can connect a mobile bank. To do this, you need to link your phone number to your bank account. This procedure makes our life much easier, but opens up wide opportunities for fraud,” the message says. It is noted that on the “black market on the Internet” you can find and buy a variety of information about users - from property data to passport data and phone numbers. After receiving such information, the attacker can apply with a fictitious power of attorney to a remote communication shop, for example, in another region, and reissue the victim’s SIM card. After completing the reissue procedure, passwords for the mobile bank will no longer be sent to the victim, but will begin to arrive on the new card. “When the bank sees that the unique identifier of the SIM card (IMSI) has changed, it blocks transactions until the re-issue of the SIM card is confirmed. To remove the blocking, attackers need to obtain a code word that only the card owner knows. To do this, they can resort to telephone fraud - vishing: attackers, using telephone communication and playing a certain role (for example, a bank employee), under various pretexts, lure confidential information from the bank card holder or encourage them to perform certain actions with their account or card). If this step is successfully completed, the attackers have the opportunity to manage the victim’s funds,” Roskachestvo explained the fraudulent scheme. To protect yourself from such cases, Roskachestvo, together with cybersecurity experts, has prepared several important rules that must be followed in order to avoid becoming a victim of fraud. In particular, you need to write a statement at a mobile phone store, which will prohibit the re-issuance of a SIM card without your personal presence; you can get a separate SIM card to work with mobile banking; Never share your CVV code, code word or code from SMS - either over the phone or in a chat with a “bank employee”. Experts also advise closely monitoring SMS messages regarding the blocking and release of SIM cards; ignore the SMS asking you to call the bank back at the specified number; call the bank yourself and not trust people who introduce themselves as bank employees; Do not post photographs of documents on the Internet and create complex passwords.

Opinion,” said Daniil Chernov, head of the Solar appScreener department. Megafon noted that after replacing the SIM card, the company blocks incoming SMS messages for a day. “Even if the fraudster is able to reissue the SIM card, within 24 hours he will still not be able to receive a one-time password to confirm the banking transaction. This time is enough for the subscriber to understand that he has problems with communication, contact the operator and cancel the fraudulent replacement of the SIM card,” explained the operator’s press service. The press service of Sberbank emphasized that the most reliable protection for clients is awareness, vigilance and caution, and if fraud is suspected, it is recommended to immediately transfer information to the bank. Ways for an attacker to obtain a duplicate SIM card

In fact, there can be quite a lot of such methods, and fraudulent schemes can begin and end in different ways. We will look at the most common of them, by understanding which, it will be possible to uncover other similar atrocities.

Making a duplicate using MultiSIM technology

This technology has been known for more than ten years, but there is still no way to guarantee the security of your SIM card. To obtain a duplicate, a fraudster needs to take possession of your phone for just a few minutes. There are a lot of options for doing this: an attacker can unnoticed take your phone in a cafe, locker room, at work or in any other public place. If you just get distracted and leave your mobile phone with a SIM card unattended, an ill-wisher may be right there.

Using a special device, the necessary data is read, after which a duplicate of your SIM is made. Then the fraudster can use it on his phone and gain access to your phone book (if the contacts are saved on the card), as well as everything that receives your number, including temporary passwords (the bank can send them to log into online banking, for example) . Naturally, the attacker will also be able to determine with this self-made duplicate the number to which payment instruments the number is linked and receive an SMS to recover passwords and confirm any transactions. Taking advantage of any other vulnerabilities that are described in the previous section of the article will also not be difficult.

This method of fraud is especially dangerous because you will not even know that someone else is using your number. When a duplicate is made in this way, and not with the participation of a cellular operator, then your SIM card also remains active. The only thing is that your network may turn off when a fraudster uses a duplicate. Another risk appears - they can write or call your loved ones or acquaintances from your number with various pretexts to transfer money to the specified account.

Restoring a SIM card through a cellular operator

Absolutely any cellular company provides the possibility of restoring a SIM card if it is lost or stolen. In such cases, many operators require a passport (sometimes a photocopy is suitable) and information about the last few calls or SMS.

Thus, the fraudster has only 2 tasks: get a photocopy of the document and call the victim. It is possible to obtain a copy of your passport using the same methods as described in the previous method using a mobile phone as an example.

With call history, it’s even simpler: the attacker can simply call the victim himself from some number about an “important matter,” then ask to call back under the pretext of a bad connection or something like that

So, there is a scan of the passport, information about the latest calls is saved. The fraudster can only go to the operator and ask for a new SIM card. He “forgot” his passport, but by chance he had a photocopy with him... he easily answers verification questions about call history. The employee of the mobile phone store issues a new SIM, and the fraudster goes to restore access to the victim’s accounts and transfer money through SMS banking.

Reading this section, you may have a lot of doubts about whether this or that method will work. Here you need to understand that there are no ideal methods, but other factors work. An attacker or a group of such may come from the other side (for example, immediately hack into your computer and gain access to some data) or try to go to different centers of the cellular operator repeatedly, hoping that the employee is negligent and that he does not compare the attacker’s face with the photo in passport. The photograph may also be old or difficult to see in a photocopy. All kinds of documents and powers of attorney can be forged. And no one has yet canceled the bribery of an employee, his complicity and the like.
