How to port a number to another operator without leaving home

“We are waiting and taking care of you” - previously this was the slogan that was encountered on the MTS website by those who went to the number porting section. Subscribers of any operator, and not just large federal ones like MegaFon, Beeline, or Tele2, can switch to MTS, keeping their number, and the main condition is that the number must be linked to the region where they plan to apply for the transfer. The procedure for changing a telecom operator while maintaining a number with MTS is not much different from MegaFon, Beeline, or another operator, but each has its own characteristics of the transition. Today we will tell you how to switch to MTS without changing your cell phone number.

Conditions for switching to MTS with your own number

To switch to MTS with your number, the client needs to comply with the following simple conditions.

He should check:

  • to whom the number is issued. It must be issued specifically to the applicant himself. The client must also check that his full name, number and series of passport contained in the application coincide with the data indicated in the application form from the previous mobile operator;
  • so that there are no debts on his previous number;
  • so that more than 60 days have passed since the date of his last transfer from the old cellular operator. Moreover, the subscriber can change operators an unlimited number of times;
  • that both mobile operators are located in the same region;
  • so that the number is not a landline number. The client has the right to transfer only a federal number.

Why are users increasingly choosing MTS as a new mobile operator? It's simple. Only here the client:

  • receives fast Internet and reliable connection;
  • does not encounter network interruptions, because MTS is a cellular operator with a large coverage area;
  • enjoys a very favorable tariff plan.

But besides the advantages, there are also some disadvantages.

For example, here's the client:

  • Immediately spends money when switching from one mobile operator to another. But the translation is not carried out automatically. It is advisable to withdraw or transfer funds from the user’s personal account.
  • May face some difficulties. For example, during the transition period, the client may not receive incoming calls or will not be able to use personal correspondence. Moreover, incoming calls may be unavailable to such users for about 6 hours. The client may encounter the fact that the connection on his cell phone will be unavailable, but usually this process goes very quickly and the subscriber does not even notice it.
  • Must constantly replenish the balance of your temporary account. Otherwise, his temporary account will be blocked, and the application to port the number will have to be written again.
  • You must re-link all contacts and social networks to your new personal account. All old contacts are automatically erased.

How to switch to MTS with your number via the Internet - step-by-step instructions

If the user does not want to leave home, but wants to switch to MTS with his number, then he can fill out an application for the switch online.

All he needs is:

  1. Go to the operator's website.
  2. Find the “Go to MTS” tab.
  3. Fill out a short electronic form.

You need to enter:

  • phone number;
  • Name.

Next, the client can agree to receive advice on number porting. And then he can click on the “Start Transition” tab.

The client must then enter into the form:

  • FULL NAME;
  • cellular telephone;
  • mobile operator;
  • region and city of residence.

Next, the user must agree to the processing of his personal data and agree to the terms of service. Now he clicks on the “Next” tab and waits for the operator’s response.

Applications are accepted only from adult users.

In 1-2 minutes the operator will call the applicant back and discuss the terms of delivery of a new SIM card. Usually it is delivered on the appointed day by courier.

The card is not delivered to all regions. The list of settlements where the finished card is delivered can be found on the website of this operator.

Can users who extort discounts from operators get into trouble with the law?

The procedure for changing the operator while maintaining the number is legal and has long been regulated. The maximum that can happen is an unpleasant conversation with an employee of the communication salon. But if such problems arise, it is only for those who are trying to perform a pseudo-transfer for free or are engaged in getting discounts on an ongoing basis. This is consumer terrorism.

But even a client’s deliberate abuse of his legal rights to obtain material gain cannot be punished. Only a fight is possible on the part of the companies themselves - for example, refusing to retain or significantly cutting bonuses.

Cellular operators are well aware of fake transfers and extortion of discounts. But for now, everyone is happy with the situation - some receive bonuses and discounts, others retain subscribers who still pay, albeit much less than other clients.

How to transfer your number to MTS through the operator’s salon

You can also transfer your phone number through your mobile operator.

To do this, the applicant must:

  1. Personally visit the salon of the operator he wants to join. Remember: the employee of the mobile phone store will definitely have to show your passport.
  2. Express your desire to switch to this mobile operator and fill out an application. It usually takes 5 minutes to complete the application.
  3. Pick up a temporary SIM card. This is where messages will be sent telling you about the stages of number transfer and the expected date of such transfer.
  4. The applicant can set the day of transition to a new operator. But usually this happens on the 8th day after submitting the application.
  5. 1 day before the number transfer, receive an SMS with the exact date of number transfer. At this time, the customer must insert a new SIM card into his cell phone. And if the subscriber still wants to use the temporary number, then he needs to re-visit the mobile phone store and get a new SIM card.
  6. The subscriber is not recommended to immediately transfer funds to his account in the first hours after installing the SIM card. Typically, cards are linked to bank cards and social networks of the subscriber. Their transition to a new operator does not take place at the same time. Because of this, funds transferred in the first minutes after installing the card may be transferred to the account of the previous mobile operator or even lost altogether. But later the temporary card needs to be topped up by 200 rubles. Moreover, 100 rubles are debited for the number porting process. The remaining 100 rubles will be spent on paying for operator services.

Many applicants wonder what kind of payment plan they will have after the transition. The client can choose the tariff plan independently. And if he has not yet thought about this issue, then he can still think about it and temporarily use the tariff plan offered to him by the operator.

MNP service

You can purchase another SIM card, but then not everyone will be able to call the previous phone. There is a way out if you contact a communication store for the MNP service, which appeared in Russia in December 2013. From this moment on, the Russian Government law on “number portability” (MNP) came into force. Now you can easily switch from Beeline to Mobile Telecommunication Systems (MTS). In almost a year, by the fall of 2014, more than one million Russian citizens had resorted to such an innovation. The cost of the transition is 100 rubles. The duration of the connection to MTS will take no more than 8 days, during which time the phone will not be disconnected, and calls to it will remain available. An exception may be a technical break, the duration of which will be no more than 30 minutes. The subscriber will not even notice this moment.

The English abbreviation MNP stands for Mobile Number Portability, which translated from English means “mobile number portability”.

Can they refuse to switch to MTS?

It also happens that the mobile operator refuses to port the client’s number.

This happens because the subscriber:

  • He did not pay on time the debt that he had accumulated from his previous operator. In this case, the client must pay the debt and submit documents for number porting again.
  • Submits documents to port a number, but 60 days have not yet passed since the last time he ported his number. In this case, the client must wait until the deadline expires. Only after this can he re-submit documents for number transfer.
  • Transfers a number that is registered in another region. The applicant must submit the application in the region where his number is registered.
  • Uses a number blocked by the previous mobile operator. A subscriber's number can be blocked for various reasons. This is done due to the subscriber’s loss of a SIM card, according to a court decision, due to his violation of the terms of the contract. The problem is easy to solve. Initially, the applicant must unblock his phone number and then he can apply for number porting again.
  • You provided incorrect information about yourself in the application form. For example, he incorrectly indicated his full name, passport number and other data from the passport. In this case, the user can only correct errors and resubmit the application.

And if the user has funds left on the old number, he can easily transfer them to the new number. But to do this, he will have to visit the mobile phone store again and write a corresponding statement.
