Calling your home phone from a mobile phone: how to do it and what to consider

We are used to writing down phone numbers starting with eight. Therefore, when somewhere you need to write down or enter a phone number in an international format on a website, you immediately have a lot of questions in your head.

We tell you in detail how to dial a phone number in international format, and where this format even came from.

Russian cell phone numbers in international format consist of three elements:

  • +7 — international country code, Russian Federation;
  • XXX - three digits indicating the prefix. These three digits determine the name of the mobile operator and the region of registration of the number;
  • XXX-XX-XX - seven unique digits, the subscriber number, which can also be used to determine the region.

So, to write down a number in international format, you need to dial 11 digits, not counting the plus sign. This combination is used for calls from foreign countries to Russia; you can call within the country by dialing eight instead of +7. It is better to immediately save numbers in the international format in the contact book, because calls often do not go through through the number eight.

The Megafon number in the international format has the prefixes 920-929, 936 and 937. MTS numbers in the international format have the prefix 910-919, 980-989. Beeline numbers in international format can be easily recognized by the prefixes 903-909, 961-968, 976.

However, it is worth considering that numbers in one code can be divided by the regulator between several operators. This is due to the fact that the number resource is limited, and it is impossible to allocate codes with the required number of numbers to all operators, and there are more than a hundred of them registered.

Strictly speaking, any Russian cell numbers are immediately written in international format, since it is impossible to call them without a country code and operator code.

It is important to know that Russia shares the +7 telephone code with Kazakhstan and Abkhazia. Other republics switched to their own codes after the collapse of the Union. Crimea also uses Russian codes +7-869 (local call in Sevastopol), and Crimea cell numbers in international format begin with the combination +7978.

In international format you can dial any city (local) number. If you need to call, for example, a hotel abroad, from a landline phone you should dial 8-10-{country code}-{city code}- subscriber number. But from a cell number you need to dial instead of 8-10 - plus and the country code.

How to call from home to mobile?

With the development of the mobile phone network, the role of the home telephone network is somewhat diminished today, but many subscribers still continue to use it due to lower tariffs for calls to home phones.

You can also call a mobile phone from your home phone, but the tariff will be significantly higher and equal to the long-distance tariff. So how does the process of calling a cellular operator subscriber from a landline number go? We will discuss this now.

The main nuance when dialing a cell phone from a landline is that you must dial eight at the beginning of the entire combination. It replaces the +7 combination, which is simply not available on a home device.

After pressing key 8, a beep will sound in the handset, after which you should dial the following three-digit combination - the contact operator code. Then comes the seven-digit subscriber number. The process algorithm will look something like this:

  • 8 (beep) УУУ ХХХ ХХ ХХ, where:
  • UUU – operator code.
  • XXX – seven digits of the contact you need to call.

Attention! Home phone devices do not always have address book functions, so you should be sure to enter the correct combination of numbers before calling someone. Otherwise, you may end up calling the wrong person.

International number format for USA, Ukraine, Belarus

The number +7 determines whether the number belongs to the Russian telephone network. Other codes are reserved for other countries. An American cell number looks like this:

+1 {country code} XXX {state or city code} ХХХХ-ХХ-ХХ {subscriber number}.

Each US state has its own prefix, but there is no link between a phone number and an operator in the US. There may be several variations of prefixes in one state.

For example, in New York, codes 347, 212 and 646 are used. At the same time, a subscriber with this number can move to any state; there is no roaming within the country, so these numbers can only be used to determine in which state the number was first located registered

Also, the numbers following +1 in an international American number allow you to determine whether the call is from a landline or cell phone. For example, 212 is the New York landline code (but not 100% of the time).

As you can see, the American number in international format also includes 11 digits. But Ukrainian is longer: here the country connection code consists of three digits, +380. Ukrainian mobile numbers in international format look like this:

+380 {country code} ХХ {operator code} ХХХ-ХХ-ХХ {subscriber number}.

Each mobile operator in Ukraine, accordingly, has its own codes:

  • 63 and 93 - Lifecell operator codes;
  • 50, 66, 95, 99 - Vodafone;
  • 67, 68, 69, 96, 97, 98 — prefixes for calls in the Kyivstar network;
  • 91 - TriMob;
  • 92 - PEOPLEnet.

Belarusian cell phones in international format can be easily identified by the starting numbers +375.

Although Kazakhstan has the same country code as Russia, their numbers are identified by a prefix: they have the format +7(6xx)xxx-xx-xx or +7(7xx)xxx-xx-xx. The prefixes of Russian mobile operators belong exclusively to the range (9xx).

Note that throughout the country there is also a numbering system with a code starting with eight. Just like in Russia, these are special multi-channel numbers. For example, 800 for free calls from any Kazakhstani number.

Long-distance connection between home and cell phone

Calling a local cellular user from a home device is no different from the procedure for connecting a home phone with a mobile phone that is registered in another city.
But before you call anyone, you should make sure that your landline phone supports long-distance service. Some subscribers (most often those who rent out apartments) may be blocked from making long-distance calls.

The process of dialing a long-distance cell phone:

  1. Press the number 8 and wait for the beep.
  2. Dial the operator code (consists of three digits).
  3. Dial the subscriber himself (seven digits).

How to call a landline in another city

If the owner of a cell phone is in another city, he should use the combination presented above. Do the same if you need to call a neighboring city or region. In this case, you should only take into account the cost of such calls.

Here, the circumstances of the mobile subscriber’s location are taken into account. Two main points can be highlighted:

  • The first is when the subscriber's location is determined at the place where the SIM card is issued. In this case, when making a call to another city on a landline phone, you will need to pay for long-distance calls. The tariff is set per minute and operates similarly for mobile calls and landlines.
  • The second is the location of the subscriber in another city in relation to the registration of the SIM card. In this case, roaming begins to work. Then the tariff is determined in accordance with the connection conditions for roaming. Often, when operators introduce new tariffs, they provide the same cost for calls to a mobile phone or a landline.

When making calls, the main condition is the correct dialing of the area code. There are combinations that consist of 5 and even 6 digits. You can see the codes of major cities in the table.

International call to a mobile phone from a home phone

From your home phone you can even dial mobile phones that are owned by other states.

To do this, you should follow the uniform rules for dialing international numbers:

  • The constant 8 is at the head of the entire combination.
  • We connect internationally using combination 10 - this is the international access code.
  • Next comes the country code.
  • The city code of the foreign power (for dialing home users) or the cellular operator to which the subscriber is assigned.
  • And at the end - the mobile subscriber number itself.

Calling a subscriber internationally is not a cheap service - so be prepared for the fact that if the conversation is planned to be long, after some time the telephone company will send an invoice for a tidy sum. To avoid this, you can make calls from a mobile phone that has a tariff plan for such cases.

Wrong

The phone number is given without the prefix +7/8

When the site says (499) 123-45-67 or (499) 1234567 , iOS will prompt you to dial the number 4991234567 . You can't get through to anyone this way. The fashion for removing prefixes came from printed materials. But there this is a forced step, I myself came across this when you are creating an advertising spread for a large retail chain indicating all the phone numbers of the stores, and the contact insert is limited in area. First of all, we cut +7 and 8, leaving only the code + number .

Webmasters have adopted this. However, when in 2009 the iPhone began to distinguish telephone numbers on websites, the lack of a prefix led to incorrect dialing.

The phone number is given by the picture

In the style of the 2000s. Some webmasters do not have enough CSS knowledge to make contact form coordinates look the same in all browsers, so contacts are made in the form of an image and laid out in a common layout. But Safari can’t recognize such delights. The client gets a trip at the entrance to the store.

The code and phone number are written in different styles

The opposite case is when the layout designer is fluent in CSS and wants to emphasize the number, while leaving a prefix with the code. It looks nice, but the iPhone won’t understand the webmaster’s motives. Avoid such cases.

Also, the code is often written in one color and the number in another. Also great if you want to be friends with potential clients who are looking for information about the company on the Internet directly from their phone.

I'll repeat it again. PREFIX + CODE + TELEPHONE must be dialed together in the same style:

+7 812 987-6543 +7 (495) 1234567 8
