The Internet is developed so powerfully that users instantly receive information on questions of interest. There are so-called DNS servers that store websites or applications. Large providers have their own DNS servers, just like .
DNS act as repositories of World Wide Web information and connect Internet resources to a specific IP address.
Essentially, all content on the Internet uses DNS addresses.
What is a DNS address for and what is it?
Internet access is carried out using the DNS protocol. It processes user data that a person enters in attempts to connect to a particular site. Accordingly, if Rostelecom’s DNS servers are configured incorrectly, you will not be able to visit the required resource.
DNS is responsible not only for access to sites, but also for blocking individual resources. For example, if a certain address is blocked in Russia, it will not be able to be opened using the RTK DNS.
- For your information
- This is how the operator complies with the legislation of the Russian Federation and takes care of the safety of clients.
When a person connects to Internet services, he first of all enters the preferred DNS server of the Rostelecom provider. If problems arise with the setup, operator experts are ready to help. As a rule, they are the ones who enter the parameters free of charge.
Command line
You can find out the IP address of the gateway via the command line using several system applications that work in text mode (without graphical design).
- Launch a command prompt with administrator privileges - run the “cmd” command through the search bar. In the "ten" click on "Start" with the left mouse button and select "Windows PowerShell (administrator).
- Execute “tracert ya.ru”, where the site address may be different, in this case ping and resource loading speed are not important.
The second utility that will help solve the problem is ipconfig. At the command prompt, run "ipconfig /all". The “Main Gateway” line contains the required numbers.
The problem can be solved in many ways in just one minute maximum. All methods are simple and understandable to any user.
Standard Rostelecom DNS address
By default, preset server addresses are used to access the Internet. At RTC they are:
- 48.193.36.
- 158.0.6.
By specifying the main Rostelecom gateway for your IP, a person completely gets rid of the possibility of switching to prohibited resources.
- Attention
- When you try to open a blocked site, information will appear on the screen that the resource is illegal by decision of a Russian court.
But the operation of standard servers sometimes causes a lot of criticism among RTK subscribers. Some people don't like having their favorite sites on the block list, while others are concerned about the length of time it takes to open pages. To save yourself from such problems, you can try installing third-party DNS.

Alternative DNS for Rostelecom
In a situation where the user is not satisfied with the operation of the provider’s standard servers, he can turn to the help of third-party offers. You don't need to pay to use them. And as alternative solutions, it is recommended to use DNS servers from Yandex and Google.
Yandex offers the following addresses:
- 88.8.8.
- 77.88.8.1.
Google has the following data:
- 8.4.4.
- 8.8.8.8.
The differences in the operation of addresses are in the speed of operation, as well as in the list of blocked resources.
- For your information
- The vast majority of hidden domains are the same, since Roskomnadzor requirements must be met by all companies providing their own DNS servers in Russia.
In addition, you can insert addresses from other companies that are not related to Google or Yandex. The DNS Benchmark utility will help with this. It is a huge database of servers that can run on any computer.
Introduction
The global Internet, like the bulk of modern smaller computer networks, is implemented on the basis of the TCP/IP stack. The IP address is used as a unique node identifier (within the same network). You are probably familiar with this - after all, your computer, and to be precise, the network interface, also has a unique IP address. You specified it when setting up the connection. With its help, your computer is identified on the network and is able to interact with other nodes. Just like any other computer or network device.
What role does the subnet mask play in the IP protocol? It indicates which part of the IP address is assigned to identify a specific network device, and which part is assigned to address the network in which it is located.
Here we need to make a small digression. Currently, networks are based on the IP protocol version 4. And there is a gradual transition to using the IPv6 version. In both cases, all networks are divided into large and small segments. This is done to simplify their administration, in terms of scaling and security. In this case, some IP addresses will not be used to identify a network node, but to designate (address) the network (subnet) to which it belongs. In this case, the IP subnet mask is used.
How to replace an address
Anyone can change DNS settings if they have access to a computer that uses the services of the RTK provider to access the Internet. The IP address, subnet mask and default gateway of Rostelecom are changed manually. The operation is performed as follows:
- Open the control panel.
- Go to the “Network Control Center” section.
- Click on the “Properties” tab.
- Select IPv4 options.
- Enter the addresses of interest.
- Save settings.
After executing the algorithm, you need to check the functionality of the Internet, namely, open a website. If the page opened quickly, you can continue to use the established DNS addresses.
- Attention
- If you encounter problems during the process, it is recommended to return to the default settings or insert other settings.
What is covered in the material
- We'll cover some basics: what the DNS acronym means, how it works. Understanding this will allow the user to use the provider's capabilities to the fullest.
- The procedure for organizing the fastest possible Internet connection, as well as a list of IPs that must be entered manually.
- What is the difference between parameter settings – manual/automatic.
- What problems may arise during operation, what notifications are given to the user in the event of a connection error.
It’s worth clearing right away that the operation of the World Wide Web without these very DNS (this is a protocol) is simply impossible, since it is through this domain name system that user requests are processed and redirected to the desired address.
In other words, through DNS, it analyzes what the user entered in the address bar, recognizes and matches it with a specific site, and connects the user to this site. In this case, the system automatically assigns the user an individual IP for feedback. In other words, you sent a request, and the site server must provide its data, that is, a site page, to your computer.
Setting up the Network may include changes in DNS parameters by registering Rostelecom IP servers. In some cases, this procedure is carried out automatically. The DNS registry contains security policy settings, including lists of sites blocked from visiting. Among these may be sites that distribute viruses, fraudulent schemes, pornography, or simply prohibited for other reasons by specialized government departments.
Summarizing the above, we can note the main points:
- without DNS it is impossible to access any website hosted on the Internet;
- The DNS protocol is an additional filter for unwanted or prohibited content;
- connection speed, latency (ping) and other parameters largely depend on whose service servers the user has chosen.
Setting up IP DNS
This type of settings is made in the same way as those specified in the previous paragraph. That is, through the control panel, the user opens the “Network and Sharing Center” and then selects the connection properties. DNS addresses, IP addresses, gateway and subnet mask are entered in the corresponding menu.
The algorithm is performed in the same way on operating systems of different generations, be it Windows XP, 7 or 10 of the latest generation. When a person has entered all the parameters, it is necessary to confirm saving the settings by clicking on the “OK” button.
- For your information
- If the changes do not take effect, it is recommended to restart your computer.

Configuring the modem in Routing
To launch the Internet Connection Wizard, go to ATM Setting. In the PVC field, set the value PVC-0. Set the VPI and VCI parameters to 0 and 67, respectively. In the Active field, select the Yes value, select the Routing connection type in the Mode, set the PPPoE.WAN Type connection type to PPP in the Encapsulation field, and set the PPPoE connection type in the Connection Type field. In the Service Name field, enter an arbitrary connection name. In the User Name field, enter the login, and in the Password field, enter the password provided to you to access the Internet. Set the Default Route marker to Enabled and click the Apply button.
What to do if the DNS server does not respond
The main problem that a person faces when accessing the Internet is the lack of connection with the server. When you try to open a website, the message “DNS server is not responding” appears on the screen. Also, a similar notification occurs when the user diagnoses problems when connecting to the network.
The first thing to do when such a problem appears is to reboot the router. In most cases, such a simple operation helps better than other manipulations. If this does not help, restart the computer. If both options for getting rid of the error fail, you should open the DNS settings through the control panel.
- Attention
- In the address field, it is better to enter alternative parameters from DNS Benchmark or offers from Yandex or Google.
As a last resort, you can call the operator's support service. It is available at 88001000800. A call center employee will give tips on how to fix the problem or offer to call a technician assigned to Rostelecom.
How to register DNS
If you decide to register the provider’s servers manually, then for Windows OS you need to do the following:
- Go to Settings or Control Panel (Settings in the Start menu).
- Select the network connections section.
- Open the properties of your (active) connection.
- Select the line with IPv4.
- Uncheck the "receive automatically" box.
- Enter in the address lines manually.
- Save changes.
That’s it, now your computer will resolve addresses through the DNS you specified, and your connection to the Network will be as efficient as possible.
Internet connection
As I said earlier, the Eltex TAU 2M.IP voice gateway can independently connect to the Internet and distribute the connection to a device connected to the LAN port.
Setting up the connection is very simple. In the “operating mode” field, select the “Router” value. Below you need to specify the protocol. In our case, PPPoE is used. Below we write down the login and password for connections from the card issued at the conclusion of the contract. Click on the check mark button to apply the changes.
Login and password do not work
If the access data is not suitable, then most likely someone else was using this device. We won’t hack it and will do it much simpler. On each device, there is a button that resets the device configuration to factory settings. Absolutely everything is reset, from settings to login, password and network settings (IP, mask and Internet access).
The button is usually located on the back panel where all the ports are located. It is usually recessed into the body and has the inscription RESET or RESET. Take a paperclip and press the button for 6-10 seconds. The router will start flashing, blinking and reboot. Now access to the device will be via a standard IP and login with a password.
From an Android phone
Unfortunately, you don’t always have a laptop or PC at hand to determine the IP address. Then a smartphone can come to the rescue.
- Let's go to settings.
- “Network and Internet” section
- Turn on Wi-Fi. Now click here to view available connections. If the router is new and there is no connection, then you need to enable WPS. We go to the router and look for this button on the back. On Zyxel routers it is located on the top cover and is indicated by a wave or key icon. After this, the phone should catch the network.
- Select our network. If a password is required, look at the factory password on the label. If there is no password, then press the WPS button again to access.
Universal IP addresses of routers
The firmware of some modern routers has universal addresses. Unlike IP, they look like a regular Internet address, which means they consist of more than just a series of numbers and dots between them. When you go to such an address, the device will independently determine its current IP and redirect you to it. Sometimes the manufacturer indicates a universal address on the sticker instead of the real IP address.
Of course, this simplifies the setup process, but in order to find out the real address of the router, you will need to perform an additional step. Open the machine's web interface at the specified universal address and enter the standard login information. In the control panel you can check the real IP address. For example, on TP-Link devices - in the “Status” tab, “Local Network” section.
Note! The universal IP address can be found in the instructions for the router or checked on the manufacturer’s website.
Determining the IP of your router
In most cases, finding out the router's IP address is quite easy.
To do this, just turn the router over and look at the data on the sticker that was pasted by the manufacturer. In addition to the address for logging into the router’s control panel, the same sticker usually contains the default account information. An IP address consists of four groups of numbers separated by periods. To configure the router, this combination of characters must be entered in any Internet browser.
Important! If non-standard firmware was installed on the router, its IP may differ from that indicated on the sticker or in the instructions. If the standard address is not suitable, you can find out the IP using Windows.
