MTS “Call Waiting” service: why is it needed and how to use it

Date: September 7, 2021 | Updated: August 23, 2021 | Author: Moblie-man

Among the huge list of additional offers that MTS makes to its subscribers, there are the following. And today we will pay attention to this proposal, because this option has the functionality that the vast majority of modern subscribers will probably not refuse.

What is a second line and why is it needed?

At the moment, mobile operators have already been able to adapt to the realities that people need.

Quick switching between subscribers, as well as the ability to interrupt one call to another without any communication problems - this is the second line.

The second line is a lifesaver for many people. When the user is on the line, but at that time someone else is calling him, he can quickly switch to another subscriber, while the one with whom the user communicated before will “hang” on the line, that is, the connection with him will remain the same .

This feature is very convenient. As a rule, it is configured through mobile operators, as well as using the smartphone settings. If the user is waiting for an important call, then the second line will also help him not to miss it. The service helps you hear soft beeps during an active conversation. The user, having heard these beeps, can also see the number of the person who is calling and after that decide whether to answer him or continue the conversation with the active interlocutor.

If a person connects a second line, then “call waiting” will be displayed on the screen of the user with whom the interlocutor spoke next, and he will also be accompanied by a pleasant melody, which is automatically installed in the phone function.

You can tell that the function is disabled by the fact that other people, trying to call a person, complain that he is constantly busy. They call, and the answer is that “the subscriber is busy.” This just means that a person is communicating with another, so he does not need to be disturbed. The second line is not included, so it is worth activating it, especially since this function is completely free for all operators, as well as on the phone itself.

More details about the function can be seen in this video

Availability of call waiting may vary depending on the network. Your phone must have an active SIM card, otherwise you will not be able to access advanced call settings.

How to enable a second line on your phone

As mentioned earlier, you can enable the second line in two ways:

  • Using your phone settings;
  • Using a mobile operator.

It is worth talking about each of the connections in more detail further, because each service has connection features, pros and cons.

Through the smartphone settings

The first way is very simple and logical - through the settings. Sometimes it is turned on automatically, that is, the person does not have to connect it. If it is connected automatically, then the user should not be bothered by other people’s questions about why he is always busy.

To connect a second line through settings, perform the following steps:

  1. First, go to “Telephone” - where you usually dial a number, as well as calls to other people;
  2. After that, look at where the settings are located on your version of the phone. Note! The setup is demonstrated on the example of a phone on the Android system, but the MIUI shell. Your shell may be different, so all settings will also be different.
  3. At this point, you need to find the phone application settings. On the presented version it is presented in the form of three dashes. These can also be three dots that transfer the user to a separate section where you can configure the system in your own way;
  4. After this, we find a special line in the settings called “Call waiting”. If there is no such line, then you need to look for a similar one. This service may be called differently on different phone models;
  5. By going to it, we simply activate the built-in service on the phone.

The user can also use the search in the phone settings. It is also not available on all models, but it can be an excellent option if it is quite difficult to find certain settings in the Phone application.

After this, as soon as the person receives a call from another subscriber, he can automatically switch from one call to another, while the first listener will be on standby, and pleasant music will play in the background.

Using operators

Many cell phone companies provide this service completely free of charge.

Let's consider the algorithm using the example of the most popular mobile operator - MTS.

The algorithm is practically no different, because this service from different mobile operators is adapted primarily to the user automatically, that is, every purchased SIM card has such a procedure and service. Everything, of course, also depends on the tariff plan, but most provide this service completely free of charge.

The pricing feature is as follows:

  • This function is included in all tariffs. That is, the user can contact and disable it or connect it at any time;
  • When a person communicates with short numbers or assigned service centers, the service is also not covered;
  • There is no charge for this service;
  • The maximum number of participants on the second line is 1. The user cannot communicate with three people at the same time. To do this, he needs to stop talking with at least one of them;
  • Although this service is free, it does have some costs in the form of roaming calls. In this case, the provider has the right to demand money for the performance of the service. The user may experience some changes in their balance after this.

USSD command

In order for the user to activate the service, he needs to:

  1. Open the “phone” application;
  2. After that, enter the short request *43# and call it;
  3. After this, the service will connect automatically.

The *43# command is universal for connecting a second line for all leading operators - MTS, Beeline, Tele2 and MegaFon.

Personal Area

This can also be done through your personal account. If we consider the MTS provider, then you need to log in to your personal account, and then find the tab with service management and enable the “Second Line” function.

Mobile application

You can also use a special mobile application from the provider. The MTS application is called “My MTS”. This is also something like a personal account, only in a more user-friendly format. Just download and in the “Connected services” section look at the “second line” function among the free ones and activate it.

This way the user can connect a second line to his provider. It is worth remembering that the name of the service, as well as how to connect it, may vary depending on the provider. On MTS everything is quite simple.

So, the main connection methods for other providers are also:

  • Special request;
  • Through your personal account;
  • Using a mobile application.

Also, if it is not possible or you cannot connect using these methods, you can always contact the hotline or simply a service where consultants will help you do this.

It is worth paying attention to the fact that different providers have different connection conditions, different functions and other processes, which depend primarily on the tariff plan. It is worth reading the conditions that are assigned by the cellular company. They are most often located on the company’s official website, which means you need to carefully review the main page.

How to activate “Call Waiting” on MTS

If you want to use this service, it does not always need to be activated. So, for example, all subscribers who connected to communication services from MTS after March 2009 have the opportunity to use the standby mode on MTS by default. If you became a subscriber of this company earlier, then you need to activate.

Connection from MTS is performed by entering the USSD command *43# . You can disable the option using the same command.

However, if you don’t remember when you connected to communication services, you can always check the status of the service using a slightly modified USSD request: *#43# . If you see that the option is deactivated, you can enable it using the method already noted above.

We also note that the service is offered for use completely free of charge. Only calls are charged, and if several calls are made simultaneously, their tariff is doubled.

How to use the second line

If a person receives a call, he will automatically hear a quiet ringtone while he is talking to another user.

  • To see who is calling, just look at the phone screen.
  • To switch to a new conversation, just reply to it. Don't be afraid that the second one will automatically turn off. It will not happen.
  • After finishing the conversation with the second user, he is rejected, the connection goes back to the first.

If the user calls another person, he will hear a notification about the person's conversation. You must wait until the subscriber either accepts the call or negotiates with another user. Once accepted, the normal busy tone will appear.

Call Waiting Feature

Before you turn on line 2 on your iPhone, you need to study the “Call Waiting” function; it helps you see a new incoming call during a conversation.

During a call on the second line, actions may be as follows:

Put the conversation on hold and start a dialogue with the second interlocutor

Cancel a call or switch it to answering machine, which is the same as hanging up a call on an iPhone

End the conversation with the first person and answer the second call

How to disable the second line on your phone

Disabling the second line is as easy as connecting it. To do this, you need to either go to your phone’s settings and set the slider for this service to inactive.

If the connection was made through a mobile operator, then you can use three methods:

  1. Disable by sending a request *43#;
  2. Disable via your personal account;
  3. Disable in the mobile application.

After this, the service will be automatically disabled. Also, if you have certain problems with shutdown, you can always contact the service center.

Note! After disconnecting, the user will not be able to receive two calls at the same time.

How to add a service?

can be added either when concluding a contract or to a previously concluded contract:

  • at the MTS Subscriber Service Center;
  • via the Internet Assistant;
  • via Mobile Assistant;
  • by calling the MTS Contact Center (0890).

is included in the basic network settings package of JLLC “Abundant TeleSystems” and from 06/01/2016. is provided to all MTS subscribers in “active mode”.

What to do if call waiting doesn't work

If call waiting does not work, this indicates the following:

  • Either the service is not activated on the phone;
  • Cellular operators are having some connectivity issues at the moment.

To solve this, you can try to resume use by disconnecting and connecting the service, and you should also contact the service center or the mobile operator’s hotline to explain the situation in more detail. It's possible that it's their problem, not the phone's.
