Initially, it was assumed that using ETTH technology the cable would be pulled directly to the subscriber’s computer. But today this is not very convenient. Most users would like to connect not only one computer to the network, but also all their other electronic devices, including tablets, TVs and smartphones.

The technology allows you to create a home network using almost any router that has four ports. A cable from the provider is connected to the WAN socket. And a cable is inserted into the LAN ports to a computer, TV, printer and other devices.

Gpon is the most modern and promising type of communication. If this is what you are offered, take it! But for this type of connection you won’t be able to buy the device yourself. Settings

1. Open the browser and enter 192.168.1.1. Next, enter your login information: admin-admin.

1. In the same tab, go to the “2nd level interface” section. And we do the same if there are connections.

1. After removal, click “Reboot router”. You will need to wait a little while the device restarts.

1. Let's go to the same tab. Now a very important point, oddly enough, the interfaces may not be deleted. Therefore, remove them again if they remain. If they are not there, click the “Add” button.

1. Now we will create an Internet connection. You must enter the correct VPI and VCI data. Typically used are 0 and 35 (Rostelecom). This data must be in the contract from the provider. If you are setting up the device for another operator, then carefully enter the required values. Save and apply the settings.

1. Now let’s create another “IPTV” connection if you need it. We also enter the parameters. Rostelecom uses data as in the picture above.

1. Go to “WAN service” and click “Add”.

1. Now look in the pop-up window there will be two of our connections. In particular, they will have numbers such as we set in the VPI, VCI values. Select an Internet connection and click “Next”. I set VPI to 0, and VCI to 35, and my connection is: atm0/(0_0_35).

1. Select the PPPoE connection and click “Next”.

1. Now you need to enter the login and password from the agreement.

1. Check the boxes as in the screenshot above and click “Next”.

1. Now a very important point. We need to move the necessary Internet and local connection interfaces in the right direction. Do the same as above.

1. In order to change the password for the WiFi network, you need to go to “WLAN”, and then select the “Security” section.

1. “Additional settings” – “Interface grouping”. Now look at the table: “LAN interfaces” are the same 4 local ports on the back of the router. We need to select one and assign an IPTV connection to it. I chose eth3. Click “Add”.

1. Enter the name “IPTV”.

1. Below you also need to do the transfer correctly. At the top you need to select the connection that we created earlier and move it to the left square. And below you need to select the desired port that we have chosen. Don't forget to apply the settings.

1. Now you need to go to the “LAN” section there. Select your IPTV group and enable IGMP Shooping.

At this point, the settings should already be completed. Now you can try to access any site. If you have any difficulties, you can try to make the settings again - you may have missed something.

1. Find out what requirements the provider places on the device: what type of WAN connector should be, what connection protocols should be used. You can call the support service to obtain the necessary assistance.
2. If the Internet speed exceeds 100 Mbit/s, then it is better to take a router whose LAN ports operate in Gigabit Ethernet format (1 Gbit/s). For lower speeds, a device with Fast Ethernet connectors (100 Mbit/s) may be suitable.
3. If you are not going to overload the network and will only browse websites and work with documentation, then you can choose a cheaper router. One antenna is enough and the ability to work on the 802.11n wireless standard is enough.
4. If wireless devices are located far from the modem, and you plan to play games over the Internet, watch movies and connect a large number of devices via Wi-Fi, then it is better to take a dual-band router that has several powerful antennas and the 802.11ac standard.
